... i'm amused that this somehow managed to satisfy my kinks for stockings, gloves, and sex-with-skirts-on, without those even being the kinks requested. and in a boy/boy fic! i love you, poland.

mm. i do like how they've changed -- before they even say it aloud, you can see that they've changed, in the way they make love and the way they understand themselves with each other -- but they are willing to understand, to try and meet one another again. they're never anything but honest; it's really lovely.

oh, come on. if you don't satisfy those kinks in a period piece, you're either a) in a different period or b) writing Manly Men, or c) doing it wrong. ^_~

I'm glad that comes through ... the Vilnius thing was a MAJOR splitting point between Poland and Lithuania, and they fought over it all throughout the end of the 10s and into the 20s. so it would've been unfair to the history to leave that bit out, even if I wanted a happy ending. ^_^;

Ach, poor Belarus. When I started poking this time period, I found a lot of tiny little tragedies--so I thought I'd let hers have a moment. Because even if I know it's just a kink meme, I can't be made to treat it that way. Meanwhile, thank you so much for picking up on all of the little things that I did with Poland's characterization; he was very hard to get into, so I was really hoping that my efforts would come across as a viable attempt at him

I've been trying to read a bit of Henryk Sienkiewicz's With Fire and Sword trilogy, when I've got time in between my school readings; I've been told that it does a good job of communicating the Polish character. So possibly that's something to look into?

Well--that would definitely fit better in my head, too. So, if I ever end up writing another fic with these fellows, I'll keep it in mind. ^_~

Also. I'm trying to test out my anon-detection skills. Were you the latest commenter on the U.S. Civil War fic?

By the way, was there any particular dress you were imagining Poland wearing? I want to keep true to your vision (no matter how corny that sounds), but - Renaissance dresses weren't open-shouldered- ^^;
And now I'm wondering if it was a centuries-old dress or one he actually had sewn specifically for the occasion.

Aaah, so it is! I thought the comment was a little short, for you. ^_~

I was thinking that it wasn't actually Renaissance--just that the cut of it was less like the late 1910s than Liet was expecting, and in combination with the person wearing it, he was falsely taken back to the closest analogue he had (the Renaissance). So. I had nothing in particular in mind, but if you infused late-10s, early-20s fabric and body-shamelessness with a late-Renaissance extravagant attitude toward fabric usage and a Polish love of pretty colors, you'd pretty much get Poland's dress. (Short version: he had it made special for the occasion.)

Ah yes, that makes sense! I was thinking of adding some Rococo elements, too - do you think it might work?
... I think I'm entirely too taken with that dress! I'm on the verge of requesting a fic where a poor but proud Poland either wears a centuries-old dress, one of the few things he hasn't sold yet, or sews himself one out of curtains, like Scarlett did in Gone with the Wind.

By the way, thank you for the With Fire and Sword rec! I've just discovered that Sienkiewicz was also the author of Quo Vadis, of which I have fond memories. Added to reading list. ^^
