DISCLAIMER! I am not the same writer as the one who filled this request. It may suck. In fact, it does suck. Don't read it! It's bad!
("Flowers? For me? You shouldn't have, Matt."
"They're not for you, Al. They're a present for-- for someone else, she just declared independance, so I thought I'd go over and-"
"She? Oho, the plot thickens! Somebody has a cru~ush!"
"S-shut up! I just wanted to congratulate her on her independence, okay?"
"Yeah, yeah. Who's this mysterious lady, then?"
"... Yekaterina. She--"
"That's Ivan's sister, right? You have a crush on Ivan's sister? Man, Matt, I don't want to be Ivan's in-law."
"I don't have a crush on her! Jeez!")
Yekaterina - Ukraine- is kneeling on the ground, now. She would stand if she could, but the lower half of her left leg is almost entirely missing.
Alfred cannot remember inflicting that injury on her. It occurs to him that maybe he should feel remorse, that this girl does not deserve it, but whenever he tries to feel bad about what he is doing he just hears I love you, I'll
( ... )
"I ... I am sorry. I loved your brother. He was a very dear friend to me. But if you kill me, you will not bring him back."
It is not a happy smile. Her eyes are filled with tears, her face is stained with blood and dirt and sweat. She looks nothing like Matthew, but in that instant Alfred thinks of his brother, and he drops the gun from where he's aimed it. His arm falls limply by his side.
I can't kill her, he realizes, slowly. I ... I can't-
Then the sound of shouting and gunshots ("I love you." BANG.) alerts him to the fact that Ivan's troops are here. Alfred can see the tall Russian at the front lines, his scarf billowing out behind him like a banner. He looks well-rested and calm; perhaps he has not realized that one of his sisters is dead and the other may be next.
Perhaps he simply doesn't care.
Alfred turns to Yekaterina for the final time. He is going to retreat after this, he tells himself. This battle has become something much bigger than he was hoping for. He aims the gun at her forehead again.
OP LOVES YOU!!!!!!

*tackles and hugs* T_____T
It was so beautiful and heartwrenching.
I loved when Matt and Alfred talked about Yekaterina, it was so cute...and so sad in the end. I'm really glad he didn't pull the trigger in the end since it showed there's still some good in him.
Thank you so much for filling this <33333333333333

Aha, I'm glad you liked it! After filling it I thought it might not be what you wanted, but I got the plotbunnies, so ...
And the end, I'm glad you caught on <33 Alfred is broken, and he's twisted now, but he's not a monster and I don't think he can ever really fall that far, not even in the name of revenge, because ... he's Alfred, man.
This is, in fact, the author!anon who wrote the first one, I mean, the one that this is a sequel to. I just wanted to say - this is lovely. It's extremely true to the plot that I developed; you've taken it in a new direction that's absolutely wonderful to behold.
Ah! I'm glad you approve .///. I-I thought it was pretty sacreligious to take someone else's 'verse and write fic for it, s-so I'm really relieved you're not offended. I just loved what you set up and wanted to see where I could go with it, so--! ♥
