Arthur’s ire rose. “You would be nowhere without me,” he said, his voice an angry snap. “I have subsidised your goods. I have loaned you money, and protected your borders against Alfred and his invasions. If it wasn’t for me, you would probably cease to exist all together.”
“I know!” Matthew exploded, hurling the cup against the wall with such a force, that it shattered into a shower of white porcelain and several blackened stones fell in on each other. “I know! You think I don’t realise that? You think I don’t understand exactly what is at stake here?”
He finally turned towards Arthur, and the Brit was surprised to see tears tracking down his face, making rivulets in the grime. He hadn’t heard the tears in Matthew’s voice at all.
“I love you,” Matthew continued, calmer now, wiping at his face with his sleeve. “I don’t want to leave. I just wish you would show me the same respect you would show someone of Kent or Gloucestershire. Give me a voice to be heard with

Beautifully done, anon! There just isn't enough fanstuff for these two at all, and it's depressing because their interaction is so complex and goes in so many directions at once at any given time. I love the tensions here, Matthew with his teacup and his anger (Matthew angry is always an event), Arthur also angry but listening--you've captured part of the dynamic I love so much. Great job. ♥
