America, England, + Former English colonies – America is the favorite, and everyone knows it anonymous April 8 2012, 19:20:15 UTC
Kids always know when their parents have a favorite, so it’s not exactly a secret that England loves America most of all. No one’s independence emotionally affected England quite like America’s did, and even now more than 200 years after the fact America still manages to hold most of England’s attention.

Note: This is historically based, but Hetalia in nature. It is thus simplified history. The meeting was boisterous as usual, the typical state when only half of the participants would decide they actually wanted to get something done.. India preferred the parties they would have, at least then no one would have to try to look like they took these meetings seriously. They went along with the flow of their people's decisions after all, at least for the most part. Their negotiations, if they ever got to making any at all, would only have to be run through their bosses and then through whatever bureaucracy they functioned under. Personal relationships could be more complicated, as they could take the feelings of their people and work them into their own identities, if they chose to. And sometimes they would not, sometimes the emotion of their people was so strong that they had to go along with their feelings. That would be the only way to explain how his relationship with England went ( ... )

"You would notice, my friend, that I have made no mention of a certain American nation. Although, that being said, I have been around longer than you, England, I know a thing or two about feelings. I remember your face the first time I saw you, not just the traders that came to my land. You were in a state after you lost him. You are making the face you always make when you are 'forced' to discuss him." As if England would ever miss a chance to talk about a certain former colony. It made a certain amount of sense on one level, the young nation was shaping up to be something important. He had the resources and the brains to be great when he wasn't trying to start fights with his neighbors. Well, India supposed, they all had to be moody teenagers at some point. If it stopped at politics, India wouldn't have thought anything of England's fixation. But there was much more to it, England himself, the slightly gangly living nation, had a soft spot for his former ward ( ... )

Oh, Anon! Not!OP is awestruck. This is just lovely. I like how you incorporated the other colonies without making it angsty or jealous. India POV was a nice nod to the argument going on above and everything was perfect. Noting just how old India is, and making a point that it was Alfred who was Arthur's favorite, rather than America holding an extra importance to England. Also, teen Canada babysitting his little siblings is so much love.

Oh Australia, baby, you're just too precious, let me cuddle you.

And of course, the USUK is much appreciated. You captured their relationship wonderfully.

Thank you for the compliments, Anon! I've never ever tried to write anything with India involved before (and I don't think I've ever actually seen anything that includes him) so I wanted to give him a try and the folks arguing up above inspired me to try and to give OP!Anon something for making a cute and interesting request.

Well done, a!anon.

Baby!Oz is the cutest. Too bad there's only one decent fanart of him.

The arguments about India and America's relationships with England remind me of Graham Greene's novel, The Quiet American. So much twisted emotion under the surface..

Thank you. :)

He is really adorable. It's really a shame that there isn't more fanart of him.

I'm currently in the midst of the British Empire class, India and England's relationship is quite twisty. I would love to see more fanfic of it.
