[Part 15] Ghostly Encounters of the Pirate Kind -- UKUS

August 7 2011, 06:02:35 UTC
Alfred Jones inherits himself a musty old British mansion. He doesn't have a clue what to do with it when he goes to visit. He's even less thrilled to discover his inheritance comes with an added problem in the form of the irritating ghost of a Pirate Captain. Said Pirate isn't any more thrilled to have this American interloper on his property so a battle of wills forms between them.
What happens plot wise is completely up to you. If you want to figure out how to work in ghostly sexual shenanigans that's perfectly fine but it's not necessary. Any other pairings or character additions are fine.
Bonus: The more time Arthur spends with his new housemate the more and more the non-ghost reminds him of a young man he loved (and whose death he caused) while he was still alive. Bonus 2: Just like that young man has a reincarnated form in the modern world so too does Arthur...

"I don't mind being here. In fact, I kind of like the way things have turned out. You will not be getting rid of me that easily."
Arthur was glad to hear it. ........................................................................
If there was one thing about Frederick that Arthur wished to change, it was his strong sense of right and wrong. As admirable quality as it was in most other cases, in a pirate it was nothing but trouble. Generally, Arthur rarely had any quarrels with his men. Respect and fear kept them in line, and his brilliant strategies and success in battle left nothing to question. True, disagreements did occur from time to time, though usually over minor issues and easily resolved.
But for as well as he followed orders and performed his duties, there was not a single crew member aboard the Green Lady with whom Arthur clashed with on a more frequent and regular basis than one Frederick -----. Even if it was something as small and harmless as a friendly suggestion to fire an extra warning shot, or a request to not

The Green Lady herself was also badly damaged. If they were lucky, they could make it to port in enough time to save themselves. But the ship looked beyond repair.
Her captain was beyond repair.
The storm ended.
The sun began to shine as it broke through the parting clouds. ..........................................................................
Whether or not the Green Lady truly was lost, Arthur gave her (him) a burial at sea once they made it to land. He disbanded his crew, took his share of the riches they'd collected, and never set foot on a ship again.
He had lost men before. To battle, disease, even the rare foolhardy attempt at betrayal. But this had been different. This had been Frederick. There had been so much Arthur had wanted to tell him, but never had. He had gotten little bits out here and there, during their quiet conversations in the light of the setting sun, but not everything he'd been wanting to say. He had thought he would have more time; to figure things out, to make it perfect

OMG! It's past my bedtime, but I have to comment on this. Incredible! I am blown away. I figured it was going to be something like that, but the way you told it...it was so much more tragic and sadder than I could have ever imagined. I cried! So much better than I could have imagined. I could just hug you for such an incredible update!

I looove this part - we finally get to see Arthur's past and it was as sad as I expected it to be. Frederick was pretty adorable, trying to be a hereo even though he was a pirate. And his loyalty and courage (but also stubborness) - it was all very IC.

LDJBKSDJG I JUST FOUND THIS CONTINUATION!!! I FREAKED OUT!!!
I'm sobbing inside right now. Oh Frederick (alfred)!!!! That's such a horrible way to go D: and the fact that Arthur and Frederick became one of those couples that fought and tragically separated forever without having the chance to apologize and say everything they've always wanted and meant to say. Urghhh, think it's that fact that hurts me the most.
The flashbacks were funny, cute and made me tense up. ^^; I found it funny how Frederick had hero tendencies and the fact that he nearly cleaned the Green Lady's food supply out. Sigh...all these updates...I'm so happy that the past has been revealed but it's so saaaad D: sighh =w=''
Until your next update, I shall curl up with my dolphin pillow and sniffle into tissues. <3

How it all comes together (or Good things come in Twos) It's All About Love
"Williams..." Alfred said, as Arthur finished his tragic story. "Frederick Williams..."
"Does it...mean something to you?" Arthur asked, trying not to sound too hopeful.
Alfred gave him an unsure smile. After hearing something like that, he wasn't sure how appropriate it was. "I'll give you three guesses as to what the F in my name stands for."
He tried to sound lighthearted, perhaps a little teasing. Both could easily see it was forced.
Arthur's eyes widened. Alfred Frederick Jones. Had it really been that simple? Just to ask? Goodness knew Alfred had questioned him enough times about his own name in the time they had known one another. And Arthur had chosen to tease and taunt him with that sculpture rather than give him a straight answer. How terribly foolish of him

Alfred was speechless as the meaning of what Arthur had just said became clear. Cautiously he answered, not daring to assume (or maybe even hope). "You know that it's me you're talking to, right Artie?"
Arthur gave him a Look. "I told you that you were your own person, did I not, Alfred? That this life is yours. And it's you I have become attached to, even before I made the connection between Frederick and yourself." He held a hand up, a signal to Alfred to remain silent. If Alfred said anything now, before he got the chance to finish, who knew when he would find the nerve to get this out again. "I will admit, it has been difficult since then to separate the two of you in my mind at times. You do remind me so much of him, it was often painful to think about. Sometimes I would wish that maybe, just perhaps, you would remember something. And I've wondered to myself if it was fair to you to talk about Frederick for just this reason

Little things. Alfred's teasing changing in tone, to something deeper. Arthur sitting down and helping the professor organize his tests, or just watching TV with him. The latter something the captain would rarely do before, opting instead to leave the room and occupy himself elsewhere until Alfred was done. He never had taken much of a liking towards the thing.
And it soon became a regular occurrence for them to simply sit down and exchange stories. Arthur remembering another memory of Frederick that Alfred would listen to with interest. And Alfred in turn sorting through the photos he kept saved on his computer, pointing out friends and family members as they appeared, and telling some entertaining tales of his own from his childhood.
It was one night as he was sharing his old graduation photos that he realized Arthur wasn't really paying attention to his crazy stories about Senior Week. Instead, he seemed to be looking quite intently at Alfred's portrait. Alfred remembered that. Man, it seemed like only yesterday when it was

"You know it's two thirty in the morning over here, right Dad?" he mumbled, still half asleep. There was silence as he listened to what his father had to say on the other end of the line. Suddenly, he shot straight up, all traces of sleep clearly gone as he practically shouted into the phone, "What? When did this happen? I-I didn't even know he was having health problems!" He threw the covers off of himself and began pacing around the room. Arthur watched him curiously and not without concern from where he had phased through the door, having also heard the cell phone ring

Nor was he going to admit how he'd hovered (literally) near Alfred's cell phone almost the entire time the boy had been in America, waiting for his calls
