God Has No Place Here [17.1/?] (Part 15) anonymous January 30 2011, 02:40:09 UTC
continued from here: http://hetalia-kink.livejournal.com/17942.html?thread=58149398#t58149398

The next morning at the British Headquarters, Cadan got there before anyone else. The building wasn’t burnt down (which was more than he was expecting from Aitken’s supervision), and the office area was still neat and orderly. He walked through the rows of desks, running his hands over their edges and thinking of the people who sat there. He paused by Arthur’s desk, letting his entire hand rest on the ink blotter.

The door to the office swung open and Cadan continued on his way to his own smaller office.

“Why’re you here so early, Aitken?” Cadan asked without turning around as he unlocked the door at the back of the room.

He heard a snort. “This is always when I get here. S’not my fault you always come in later than you’re supposed to.”

Cadan laughed and shook his head as he sat in his (much more comfortable than Aitken’s) chair. He ( ... )

“We can only hope, I guess,” Aitken said bitterly. “And pray, and hope God will have some sympathy for him.”

“God doesn’t like people who are...like him,” Cadan said quietly. “We both know it. Nobody likes people like him. Nobody looks out for them, and nobody protects them. Not even God.”

Aitken didn’t respond and moved away again. When he was at the door he said, “Leave your door open, I’ll signal you when I know anything.”

The redhead walked back to his desk, patting Arthur on the shoulder subtly as he walked by. The blond didn’t flinch when he did, and Aitken smiled slightly to himself as he sat down. That meant Arthur probably wasn’t physically hurt. He glanced back at Cadan to see the brunet watching him. Cadan raised an eyebrow and Aitken shook his head, still smiling a little. Cadan frowned, drumming his fingers on the table and turning back to his work. If the problem wasn’t physical, it had to be emotional or mental, which was worse than Cadan had hoped. After a few minutes Cadan closed the door to his ( ... )

Cadan squeezed his shoulder slightly. When Arthur looked up at him he said, “You can always talk to me Arthur, you know that, right? You can tell me if there’s something wrong. You know I wouldn’t report you.”

“You’re my superior,” Arthur pointed out, not looking at him.

“As Cadan, not as Colonel Treharne.”

Now Arthur did look at him. “I can’t separate the two.”

“Try then, Arthur.”

Arthur sighed and ran a hand through his hair, looking away again. “I have tried. The only time I’ve been able to was when I told Aitken and you about my...preferences...when I thought we were all going to die.”

“Try again, please. I’m worried about you, and Aitken is, too.”

Arthur glanced at him. “We aren’t about to die, Colonel Tre...Cadan. And this isn’t something I can tell anyone, with all due respect.”

Cadan assessed him for a minute then let go of his shoulder. “All right, Arthur. Just...”

“I know,” Arthur said quietly, going back to his work. Cadan pat his shoulder again then left. Arthur went back to reading ( ... )

Ooooh, I don't mind your love for Cadan at all, because I love him, too ♥ And Aitken! You really created two loveable OC's here and a flashback chapter would be awesome!

Aaaaw and it breaks my heart to see Arthur like this great at being miserable. It's probably because everybody loves him so much and will be sad with him

Once again, great chapter! And, like I said, I would love to see more of Aitken and Cadan in a flashback! :D

“This is a miserable night,” Cadan groaned, walking into the tent and shaking water out of his hair. He peeled off his gloves and started unbuttoning his uniform jacket.

Aitken looked up from his bedroll and rolled his eyes. “You should’ve gotten out of the rain like the rest of us, then. Right, Arthur?”

The blond looked up from the letter he was reading. “Hmm? I’m sorry, I wasn’t listening, Captain Ogilvey.”

Aitken rolled his eyes and punched the smaller man in the shoulder, making Arthur hold his arm and scowl. “You need to loosen up with that whole rank thing, especially when we’re in private, Second Lieutenant Kirkland,” he mocked, chuckling slightly.

Cadan pulled his jacket off and played with the new crown and stars on the epaulets. Aitken looked over at him and laughed. “Happy with your new rank, Brigadier Treharne?”

Cadan raised an eyebrow and put his jacket down. “You’re just upset you haven’t gotten your crown yet. Still stuck with only stars, poor lad...”

Aitken’s eyes narrowed. “I’ll get mine ( ... )

Aitken took it next, but Cadan plucked the bottle out of his hand. “Higher rank first, Captain.” He held up the bottle. “To the deceased Mrs. Kirkland, resting in heaven.” he took a drink then passed it back to Aitken.

“To the little mister Kirkland, safe in Britain” Aitken said before he drank, giving Arthur a small smile. The blond returned it, accepting the liquor again.

“To whatever unfortunate women you two someday find, that they have better luck in other aspects of life,” he drank as the other two laughed, joining them when he swallowed the mouthful.

“To the eternal captain!” Cadan said loudly, laughing as Aitken pushed him roughly.

“To the King,” Aitken proclaimed, holding the bottle up in the air for a second before drinking. The other two laughed and Cadan shoved him slightly.

“You’re too serious for a drinking party,” the brunet said with a grin. Aitken just shrugged and passed the whiskey along.

When the bottle was done, Arthur was definitely the drunkest of the three. He was leaning against Aitken ( ... )

The next morning, Arthur groaned as he woke up, cradling his head against the light coming through the open flap of the tent.

“Oi, Arthur,” Aitken said, his voice quiet.

“What do you want?” Arthur hissed, cracking one eye open to glare at the redhead.

“Cadan and I need to talk to you about last night,” Aitken told him, handing him a cup of water. Arthur drank it thankfully, sitting up.

“All right,” he said sighing. “What happened last night anyway?”

“You told us something very interesting,” Cadan said, walking over to Arthur’s bed roll after closing the flap, already dressed in his uniform. He was smoking a cigarette, and tossed the butt onto the ground when he stood next to Aitken, snubbing it with his boot.

“What did I say?” Arthur asked, looking at the brunet.

“You told us you’re gay,” Cadan said quietly, crouching down next to Arthur. The blond’s eyes opened wide and he looked between the two men.

“What?”

“You told us you liked men, Arthur.”

Arthur laughed nervously. “C’mon, I was drunk. You don ( ... )

It was a week later when Arthur looked into the kitchen, asking “Would you like any help with dinner?” Ludwig, who was sitting at the table, looked up at him. Arthur kept his eyes on Elizabeta, shifting from one foot to the other.

The brunette shook her head and smiled. “Across hall,” she said, wiping her hands on a dish towel. “Ask Roderich want food?”

Arthur took a few seconds to figure out exactly what she was asking. “You want me to go across the hall and ask Roderich if he is hungry?” Elizabeta smiled and nodded. Arthur smiled back. “Of course.” As he turned and left he glanced at Ludwig. The blond was watching him over the top of his newspaper, his blue eyes flickering down to the newsprint when Arthur’s green eyes met them. Arthur hesitated for a second, watching the top of Ludwig’s impeccably slicked hair. He swallowed heavily, turning quickly and leaving the room.

Arthur closed the door to the kitchen behind him, taking a few steps across the hall and opening the door there. He stepped inside.

“Oh, he was injured by a shell exploding, he would see things differently. I was hurt by a British soldier.” Roderich paused for a moment, looking at his hands. “I was lying somewhere, in a field or a forest. One of the soldiers found me, and I thought they were going to help me. My leg had been damaged by a mine, and I needed to stop the bleeding. All he did was cut it off and taunt me, telling me that I would never walk again, that I was useless like the rest of my country.” the brunet choked slightly, tears starting to drip onto the pressed white of his sleeves. “And then he saw my hands. I was so proud of my hands, because I played with them, so I kept them clean and neat. He stepped on them, first, made them dirty. Then he...I do not remember what he did. I have tried many times to remember. I suppose I have blocked that memory. I remember when he walked away, and he stepped on a mine, and I was happy, I was so happy he had died before me, I...” he trailed off, his shoulders shaking lightly. Arthur put a hand on his ( ... )

“Dinner’s ready,” Ludwig said softly, looking more at Roderich than Arthur. Elizabeta nodded and left the room, presumably to start distributing food. Ludwig’s eyes lingered on Arthur before he followed her quickly, with Gilbert step-thumping after them. Arthur looked down at Roderich and smiled, the brunet smiling slightly back after a second.

Silently, Arthur helped Roderich move his hands back to his lap, covering the keys of the piano. He wheeled Roderich into the hall then into the kitchen, stopping at the brunet’s usual seat.

Arthur sat in his own seat, avoiding looking at Ludwig. Gilbert banged his cane on the ground and shouted something at Elizabeta with a grin, who responded by stomping over and smacking him with a wooden spoon. Roderich looked at Arthur.

“That first piece was not only my sadness,” Roderich said. Arthur glanced at him. “You are sad as well.”

Arthur swallowed slightly. “I have reason to be, I suppose.”

Roderich stared at him for a few seconds before nodding, looking over at Elizabeta as ( ... )

Arthur stood in the bathroom that night, massaging the small of his back slightly. He sighed, closing his eyes for a second then opening them again to stare at himself in the mirror. He started unbuttoning the coat of his uniform, meeting his own eyes. The water in the shower to his side thundered as he waited for it to warm. He automatically undid his tie and placed it next to the sink, followed by the chest strap.

The door opened and Arthur spun around, his eyes widening when Ludwig shut the door behind him.

“What’re you-” He was cut off when Ludwig kissed him roughly, pressing him back against the counter of the sink. His eyes closed tightly, against his will, his fingers gripping the fabric over Ludwig’s shoulders and digging in. Ludwig’s arms folded around his waist, drawing him closer. He licked at Arthur’s lips, pressing more against him.

Arthur’s eyes opened again and he pushed at Ludwig’s shoulders until the taller blond stumbled back against the opposite wall.

“We can’t do this,” Arthur hissed, looking off ( ... )

Arthur slid his hands across Ludwig’s chest, rubbing at the lines of his muscles that had faded only slightly with time. He caressed a deep scar across his stomach then trailed them up to the German’s nipples, rubbing one softly. Ludwig moaned against Arthur’s neck, his eight fingers making quick work of the buttons of the Englishman’s shirt. Arthur twisted his nipple slightly, running his other hand through Ludwig's hair, letting some of the blond strands hang free.

Gilbert moved slowly up the stairs, the thumps of his cane alternating with the heavy steps of his good leg. It was a slow and painful process, but Gilbert grit his teeth and continued slowly up the stairs.

Arthur’s shirt was finally open, and Ludwig tore it off his shoulders and down his arms. Arthur let go of Ludwig to fling it away, immediately going back to running his hands through Ludwig’s hair. Ludwig moved further down and sucked on his nipple softly, making the shorter blond jerk and moan, his hand tightening in the German’s hair.

“Ludwig,” ( ... )

*anon is crying rn* cliffhanger noooooooooooooooo ;_;

Y U SO CRUEL, ANON?

joking! Anon, I lovelovelove this story so much, I may not always comment, but I cheer up every time I see an update, and what you wrote here is goddamn amazing, I love you so much for writing this. And, damn, finally after so much tension they do something about it and Gilbert ruins it, and the scene was so hot, so intense, I was enjoying in each new word. You're playing with us, anon, you're playing with us in such a clever way - I could not guess until the last moment what would happen, it was unpredictable even though you want us to believe it's not... Yet I'm so confused - what exactly will Gilbert say, what will he do? Would he really do something that will harm Ludwig? Ahh, so many questions.

I'm happy that you've already made plans for future chapters, but at the same time I hope the ending won't be tragic or sad... I couldn't handle that ;__;

Author anon you did a wonderful job building up the (sexual)tension between these two and making it only a matter of time before these two gave in.And Gilbert getting a eyeful when he opened the door on them makes me certain that he isn't going to react well.I am looking forward to the next installment.
