Has anyone else read the classic Superman story "For The Man Who Has Everything"? It's an excellent tale about Superman being captured by the Black Mercy, a plant that slowly kills its captive by trapping them in a dream of their deepest heart's desire that they will never want to wake up from. For Superman, his heart's desire turns out to be living an ordinary life on Krypton with a wife and children. And it turns out that the only way to break free of the Black Mercy is to reject it or subconsciously warp the dream into a nightmare

Excellent characterization of Norway. I loved the way he showed his concern about Denmark and how he got embarrassed when he realized that he was petting Denmark's head. It's the little moments like these that make me smile even with the larger plot unfolding in Denmark's head.
Then I got to the "crying out of pure happiness" part and I went ;_; once again. Dramatic irony at its finest. I wish I could say more about this part, but really, the most meaningful thing I have to say is that I'm still loving this fill and the way you're writing the characters.
As for the ending, I'd much prefer a happy or at least semi-positive one (because Superman did at least get that with his friends rescuing him, right?), but if you really believe that an angsty one would make for a better ending, go for it! I may be the OP, but in the end, I'm not the one writing the story and coming up with all these great ideas for it.

Oh anon, my heart. I just read all of this so far in one shot after having eyed this fic on the fills list for a few days, and I'm very glad that I did. Your characterization of Denmark is unexpected but excellent, and the same goes for Norway, really. Denmark's heart's desire makes perfect sense, and you've left me wondering if other nations ever want the same - to just be able to lead simple lives, the way their people do, without all the complications that nationhood brings.
Great job. I'll definitely be checking back for more.

Please say Tony was the specialist on alien studies that Japan was talking about! Also, the fluff is killing me, in a good way. Don't stop writing this!
Keep writing, anon! This is perfect!

New-commenter!anon here.
The updates came so quickly I didn't have time to read them until last night. ^__^ But it's such a wonderful story! I don't think I've ever seen a Denmark story this introspective before (if introspective's the right word). He's usually not even a main character!
Reading through the story, I felt sad for Denmark, but didn't cry because I normally don't in fics. But the last bit got me. The image of Denmark crying and then finding out the reason why he's crying - I had to cry with him. Thankfully, my roommate was asleep by then so I wasn't bothered ~__^ It's just...Denmark pretty much lost his whole family when the Kalmar Union broke up. And of course he would cry if Norway said he loved him. People don't cry from happiness. They appear to, but what they're really crying over is the knowledge it could never happen in real life. Children don't cry after watching happy movies because they still believe whatever it was could happen. So somewhere, at the back of his mind, Denmark knows that this is only a dream

Wow this is so beautiful! I am loving this fic so much, this part made me want to cry. *squeee* *sniffle* Please continue this lovely story.
I love DenNor, this is just tugging at my heartstrings. And I loled at the moose and the fishing and camping references. Happy child Iceland also surprised me but in a good way. And Sweden, oh gosh, so talkative! :)
The love between Niels and Mathias is so heart-warming and beautiful, makes me so happy and feel warm inside just reading it. I hope that Norway realizes how he really does care about Denmark before time is up. And Denmark crying while in the middle of the dream, WAHHHHHHHH, I want to hug him. And when Norway mentions that Denmark was moving around in his sleep, grasping at the empty bed, my heart was like *squeeze* - because he's wanting to hold onto someone (YOU, Norway you dummy) he loves. ;___;
;3; I am sending you many many hearts and kisses and love for writing this story. You're so wonderful. Please continue!

Waugh! Sorry I wasn’t able to update over the past two days! I wound up being a lot busier than I thought I would be. OTL I’m back home now though, so I’ll be back to regular postings! After another several hours of sitting in the same plastic chair, Japan insists that Norway retires for the night, or at least until the laser trial in the morning. Norway reluctantly agrees on the condition that Japan does the same, a stipulation the exhausted Asian man quickly agrees to. Japan bids him goodnight and once again leaves him alone with Denmark

As he watches the city, Norway fights to keep his eyes open. It’s been a long time since he’s dedicated this much thought to the obnoxious Dane, at least past the usual “you’re annoying, go away” vibes he generally gives off at meetings. The more he dwells on it, the more he realizes that he has no idea what Denmark has been up to lately except for what he brings forth, politically, at the various summits and gatherings that they all attend. Wind farms, alternate sources of energy, gloating about the World Cup. The same things they’ve all been doing. But, on a personal level, he hasn’t bothered to catch up with the Dane in months. He almost feels bad about it.
Almost.
He sighs irritably.
“What could possibly make him so happy that he would be moved to tears?”Japan’s question has been plaguing him for hours. He has wracked his brain endlessly but has still come up empty. The mere fact that Denmark had been crying in the first place had been enough of a jolt to send his thoughts reeling, but his own inability to figure out the

By the time they fight their way through traffic to the hospital and bribe America into watching Sealand, Russia is waiting for them impatiently with a group of doctors outside of Denmark’s room. Like Japan, the tall Russian is wearing a white overcoat, apparently putting in his hours with CLINIC as well. He greets them stoically and motions for them to follow him down the hall

The mass contracts suddenly and the machines monitoring Denmark begin to beep frantically. The Black Mercy’s main body quivers, tense and tightly wound before releasing suddenly, sending a new wave of tendrils stabbing under Denmark’s skin, ripping their way up through his neck and ribs
