The next day when I met my friends Untel and Tartempion later, I was trying hard not to think about the day before too much.
"So, did you find out about M. France?" they of course had to ask.
I shuddered slightly. "I suppose so..."
"Well, what is it? Who is he?"
"I don't think you would believe it if I told you," I said hopelessly.
"Now, now, Lambda. You worry too much. Just tell us what he said."
I drew a deep breath. "He claims... that he is France. As in... that he is the human version of our country."
There was a pause. I didn't even dare to look at them at first but in the end I couldn't help it. They seemed... thoughtful.
"Oh, that makes sense," said Tartempion. "His name is France too, isn't it?"
"Yeah, and France would surely have been around during the Crimean war too, wouldn't he?" added Untel.
Dear God in Heaven, I don't know if it is that everyone else is mad or am I just, in fact, thinking too much?
In any case, I am very, very worried.
I amused myself by looking for the "John Doe" type(*) of names in (

)
