~ And the Ocean Calls My Name ~

My name is Peter Kirkland... I'm also called Sealand. I am the smallest nation in the world. I was born in England in 1942 - or at least, that's the first moment I remember. It seems like a long time ago now... I am still so young, they said, not a proper country at all. So many times, they said it, that I would never be a country. But they were wrong. Today. Right now. I am what I always knew I would be. And it's good... Even when it hurts... it's good. Everything I ever wanted and hoped for.

Oh, wow, anon. This is an excellent start! I especially love the very beginning where Sealand is talking about himself. For some reason, how he said he was born in 1942 made me shiver a bit, though. I think it might have been because, even though all the countries are way older than they appear, 1942 is so specific. A reminder that Sealand is, indeed, 68 years old, which is an age we can relate to.
I'm very interested in where this seems to be going. Most fills with Sealand either treat him as the obligatory kid in domestic Nordic fics or as a prankster with nothing better to do. And they're all present day. I've never seen a historical Sealand story before. I've never seen him being called Fort Roughs before either.
I can't wait for the next update! This has huge potential for headcanon formation.

Given his personality in fanon (and kinda canon as well) and my own minor dislike of small children (and the fact that he reminds me of when my younger brother was at his most annoying stage), you have managed something amazing and actually made me like Sealand. The world is coming to an end!

This is just amazing, I swear to god I love you so much. My headcanon has always been so hazy about his creation, yes. I love this. I love Fort!Peter. I love your characterization of Arthur in this. I love how Francis is being... FrancisI especially love the fact that there are dates set to this. Again, my hazy headcanon. I've never seen someone show him as a fort

Well, I personally think Fort Roughs is a beautiful name. Don't listen to them, Sea-kun! And you're far too young to learn hate... Just goes to show that kids grow up too quickly nowadays. Sealand is only 68 years old and he's already 12! Only in Hetalia does that sentence make any sense XD Wasn't Italy Chibitalia for a few hundred years? And as far as canon goes, when other nation-tans are this age (around 12), aren't they already fighting wars and involved in politics? The world is a different place than it used to be....
I also find it interesting that France and England are so confused about Sealand (or should I be calling him Fort Roughs?) being a fort rather than a colony. I love France's line, "We cannot simply 'make' others, Angleterre! The world does not work that way!" It's just a really effective point. Fort Roughs as a living being should not exist. And that's one thing he will have to fight against his whole life

It was drizzling the day they gave Fort Roughs to the water. The boy stood beside England, his heart pattering high and fast in his chest as the men began to move the structure. He had the strange, dizzying sense of being in both places at once. He was aware of being Peter - the one standing next to Arthur - but he was also aware of being Fort Roughs, a construct of metal and stone, and every tearing scrape of the shifting concrete went straight through his small body. Into the water for the first time, tense with fear and excitement, and his form didn't sink. It was enough to ease the minute trembling of his hands and he darted a glance and a smile at England, who was overseeing this whole event in silence, lips pulled into a grim line

Once things had settled a little, England was there again, catching Fort Roughs off-guard with his presence. The nation had a serious look on his face as he approached, hands coming down to rest firmly on the boy's shoulders. "That's as much as I can do for the time being. You'll need to handle things from here on your own." Fort Roughs gave a slight bob of his head in acknowledgment and England continued. "I don't know if you're aware just how important this is, Peter." It was the first time England had called him by his given name, and he found himself transfixed as the man spoke. "The Germans have taken to deploying mines in these waters - disrupting our shipping and transport routes. People are starving, Peter. I need you to be alert - to make sure they can't block this area. This is vital to the country's survival, do you understand

You know, I can't get over the fact that Sealand isn't Sealand yet. He's Fort Roughs, and this is the first fic I've seen of him then. It really bothers me how all the other countries (at least the canon ones) have gotten historical fics, some multiple ones, but Sealand has never been portrayed as anything but a supporting character. There was this one about him being bullied and cutting himself for having gay parents, but it was a human AU.
Anyway, I'm LOVING this story, anon! Can't wait for the next update!

"We'll all go crazy eventually," One of the men was saying - the same tune, day in and day out, "Months trapped in this cramped hellhole - an open target. If we're not destroyed by the enemy, we'll turn on each other. Mark my words, it'll happen. This is no way for a human to live

OP is speechless and can already see that this fill just might be, simply, the best thing to ever happen to her corner of the meme.
I don't mind the deviation from the request; in fact, I think I like where this is going very much.
In summary: MY LOVEEEE. IT'S YOURS.

ANYWAY, I'm really interested in this because I know very little about Fort Roughs 'cept for some basics.
I too really like the characterization of Peter in this. It gives his character the depth that he should have.

This is killing me. So well written. Well done, anon.
OP can only stand by and blather incoherently about how much she loves you, and this.
