When Germany betrays the Russians by killing off the communists, as well, Russia becomes confused about whose side he should ally with. His people are dying and, despite what he tells everyone,he's really not as strong as he seems. The main reason he's so strong is the russian front, where people could die not only from fighting, but from the land. About 26.6 million russian soldiers died in the second world war D:
America feels the need to comfort him, even though he's an enemy.
lots of angst, please! And if you can fit some romance in there, too... ;D

America found himself unable to move. What was he supposed to do? Wait this out? But it wasn't getting better, it was getting worse; Russia had started to thrash around violently in his sleep and the moans had turned into panicked sobbing sounds, punctuated with word in Russian than America couldn't understand

He could feel the tension radiating off Russia's body as he spoke, and when he was finished the larger man finally looked up. His eyes had gotten suspiciously glassy and there was something else in his eyes...a question, and some kind of hope. It felt so good to see something real and human in those eyes that America almost laughed in pure relief
