Quick one, because I'm stuck on my other fill. ORL I guess this isn't really hate, sorry! It's nothing new, of course, even though it still makes his brother rant and rave about ungrateful and unawesome bastards for hours every time he sees the numbers. He himself trusts that they made the framework more solid this time, that it can't simply slide away, although if he looks too closely at the edges now, something in his gut lurches. So he doesn't

Thanks. :)
I'm always under the impression that Germany has this particularly badly(I'm still not quite sure how people took offence to our president saying "I love Germany," but they did.), but I guess it's a general feeling in the older democracies.

Impressive fill! And you really make me almost teary. Germany surely does get this a lot, doesn't him? I always feel there needs to be a line drawn somewhere that people should just fucking stop shoving the terrible things the Germans' grandparents did into their faces. The war is fucking over for 65 years, and the genocide during that time, too. Yes, I am looking at you, England.
Nothing is wrong in saying "I love Germany", no matter whether you are German or not!
Sorry for ranting, have been quite annoyed by these issues for some time now. AND I AM NOT EVEN GERMAN.
Thankyou for this, anon. Particularly well tackled, incredibly thoughtful, and I think you're absolutely right when you say that Germany gets this particularly badly. The past shouldn't be forgotten, but it's still the past. Now I just want to give Ludwig a hug.
I can't really find the words to say much more, so... thankyou. ♥

I think that fits Ludwig's personality. Nothing is ever perfect and he keeps just on working... Aww... But I'm proud of him dealing with WWII. I think he did an ok job there and still does his best^^ Maybe I should knit a scarf for my country? He would feel more loved...
I wasn't expecting a Canada fill 'cause from this American point of view, they seem like they're happy up there. I guess every country has a down side.

A different anon here...yeah, we don't seem to have huge publicized problems in Canada, but sometimes it all seems pretty pathetic. I had a whole rant typed up, but I don't want to take over Author!anon's post. We can't seem to get things together here at home, and our international relations are a joke. Especially with the States; remember when we could brag that our countries had the longest undefended international border in the world? Yeah. Can't even do that anymore.
But I love my country fiercely. I think it's a good goal in life to get out there and make some changes, rather than just whine that the government is uncaring and corrupt. Let's check back in a few years and see how I've done, okay? =D
Author!Anon, that was well done. I'd say it was fantastic, but I think it almost hit a little too close to home. But heck, there are even more topics about Canada that we could complain about, and what's poor Mattie to do? I reflexively tried to come up with comebacks for everything your female character said, but I think

I have to agree sadly that we have a lot of problems. After reading a few books on modern Canada, there has been a single underlying theme: The only reason we are Canadian is because we don't want to be American and that we also don't have enough pride in our history.

It seems like all we can ever agree on it not being American. It's the basis of the Canadian Idenity and shit it is sad.
And then there is the fact that it's more common to see a foreign flag than a Canadian flag unless it is a government building. It was really funny when the FIFA under 20 came to Toronto last year (or was it longer ago?). It seemed like the streets were flooded with flags attached to car windows, but none were Canadian.
And then there is the fact that when you ask someone who is living in Canada where they are from they will almost ALWAYS respond with a foreign country (and not Canada).

Just at the 'respond with a foreign country, not Canada' thing: It's the same in America. If someone says, "Where are you from?" I answer "I'm Cheyenne-German and Irish, and I used to live in Finland" not "American." I suppose it's just a factor of the whole everyone-is-an-immigrant thing. Well, kinda- I AM part Cheyenne...
Can be any nation and I would prefer that the hater does not realize that they have met their country.
I hope this hasn't been requested already.
