He knows he's dying. No matter how much he denies it, no matter how many times he says, "Antonio, I'm fine!", he still knows it. Sure, he doesn't want to accept it, but cancer's a terrible thing, and it's been ravaging the Italian's body for six months now. Six long, long months, long months that he doesn't want to let go of, because he knows when Lovino... when he goes, he won't have anything left. Francis and Gilbert, sure, but what are they compared to him? Lovino's been with him since he was a teenager, and he's closer to him than he is to all of his friends combined. So what are they?
He doesn't know.

Lovino cuts him off with a glare. "You're lying, bastard. Don't think I'm fucking stupid." He lets go of his hand, turning his head over as ferociously as he can on the pillow. "You've always wanted him. Always. Because he's thinner, and lighter, and nicer, and, and, ... and... " He realizes Lovino's sobbing. And he stares. Because Lovino never sobs. Not even when he found about the cancer, not even then, because then, he just stared at the wall and stared while Antonio did the crying for him

Anon just wants to say that, even if writer!anon thinks it's not historically accurate, anon thinks it is.
In Anon's head cannon, one of the Italy brothers has to disappear because Italy isn't seperated any more, like with Gilbo and Ludwig. This makes so much sense to anon.
