In most of the fics I've read concerning South Italy, and even on the official website, he's usually shown as just having given up at ever trying to best Feliciano or to prove his own worth and having an absolute rock-bottom self-esteem.
I would really, really like it if after some incident in which his feelings are very badly hurt (maybe involving Spain saying something hurtful unintentionally?), he decides to work hard at proving himself. And this time he doesn't give up but actually manages to win some respect.
The catch is that he starts to burn himself out. How this is resolved is up to whoever decides to take this on but smut would be very much appreciated.
