England seems normal on the outside, but is actually being abused. (If you make it not obvious who is abusing him, that would be fine.) Russia, having abused people and seen the effects, notices, and tries to corner him about it and help. But England is having none of it, because Russia is seen as a violent person, so he thinks he'd be letting himself in for more abuse.
Cue Russia genuinely helping, and England being suspicious at first but gradually coping, and finding that Russia is past his insane stage, and is a nice person, if shy. And quite useful to get back at people.

Author!Anon, I don't know how I missed this, but I absolutely love it!! You're doing a great job developing their relationship, nice, slow, and undeniably believable.

I'm also looking forward to the inclusion of Alfred, though I'm still rooting for Ivan/Arthur~!! Thanks for a great read!!

lord! I love how this is developing. I agree with anon above, the way that little facts, like Russia's previous history with violence, how he wants to help a victim, are gradually revealed, not just thrown at the reader, is just... I don't have words, but it's great. this is beautiful, anon, I love it.

The first time Ivan met one of Arthur's family members was while he and the Brit were walking home from school together.

“Jerk Arthur~!!”

Neither really had any warning before something tackled Arthur from behind and the blond let out a grunt, stumbling just a bit forward. Ivan just blinked in surprise at the smaller, almost Arthur-clone.

The Kirkland twisted his head to confirm his suspicions and sighed when he saw just who it was. “Peter,” He unsuccessfully tried to pry the smaller arms from his waist. “You're hugging too tight. And what did I say about attacking me from behind like that?”

The younger boy - Peter, his name was apparently - rolled his eyes before loosening his hold and saying, “You said not to, 'it's totally unbecoming of a future gentleman!'” Blue eyes finally took notice of his brother's larger companion. Eyebrows, quite similar to Arthur's (Ivan was amused to note), furrowed together and the boy frowned. “Who are you?!” The Russian noted the younger boy's hold around Arthur's waist tightened protectively

“I didn't know you have a brother.” Ivan commented as they settled down on Ivan's living room couch. It was only him and Arthur now, Peter having run off to his friend Raivis' house a few streets down

Peter!! He's adorable in this fic~!! So protective of his older brother, such a good kid, though I'm sure he's still a brat.

All too soon, school was out for winter break and Christmas was a day away, just like that. They had agreed before school ended to meet in the playground by Ivan's neighborhood on the night before Christmas eve to exchange Christmas gifts
