Emily
Vladimir Nabokov’s classic Lolita has always been one of my favorite books. At last, I thought, here is someone who understands what it is like. For like the unfortunate Humbert, I too have desired and craved my own Lolita. I too have loved a girl-child as he loved his Dolores. My dear bright glorious Emily, my nymphet, my sin, my soul; light of my life, fire of my loins!
Reading through Lolita again I can clearly see how eerily similar my life has been to the story of the book’s protagonist. I loved sweet Emily like no other and yet she is gone gone gone…
Ah, but you do not want to hear my inane begging for what I have lost, do you? No, what you want is how I arrived to be the pitiful shell of a man I am. Fine. You shall have what you want.

You really think I made Ivan sound crazy? Thank you! I was having trouble with that! If it weren't for the thesaurus, I couldn't do the prose, but it wouldn't be a proper Lolita story without it. My OCD self just can't pick the logest prettiest synonym, I have to pick the one that fits just right and it takes a long time and...
Ahem, sorry. Thank you!

I usually hate first-person style in fanfiction because it's so easy to do wrong, but I'm glad I decided to read this anyway because you're doing pretty well.

As far as the ending...I have a hard time choosing! I'm sure either would be great...but maybe the bittersweet one? I don't know, it's your call.
