Part 5 Russia and Girl!America as Humbert and Lolita 1/? anonymous November 3 2009, 06:57:32 UTC
Since no one else filled this prompt, I figured I’d give it a go! Behold as I utterly FAIL at purple prose, creating an interesting backstory for pedo!Ivan, making this story more than just a Lolita-with-the-only-the-names-switched thing, and so on.

Emily

Vladimir Nabokov’s classic Lolita has always been one of my favorite books. At last, I thought, here is someone who understands what it is like. For like the unfortunate Humbert, I too have desired and craved my own Lolita. I too have loved a girl-child as he loved his Dolores. My dear bright glorious Emily, my nymphet, my sin, my soul; light of my life, fire of my loins!

Reading through Lolita again I can clearly see how eerily similar my life has been to the story of the book’s protagonist. I loved sweet Emily like no other and yet she is gone gone gone…

Ah, but you do not want to hear my inane begging for what I have lost, do you? No, what you want is how I arrived to be the pitiful shell of a man I am. Fine. You shall have what you want.

Part 5 Russia and Girl!America as Humbert and Lolita 2/? anonymous November 3 2009, 07:04:49 UTC
Shall we start at the very beginning? I was born in Moscow, in the winter of 1974 to a Fyodor and Anna Braginsky. There was nothing particularly traumatic or devastating or even very interesting at all about my childhood. I had two sister, and older and a younger, Yekaterina and Natalya. The older, poor shy Katyusha, from what I hear has moved up to Canada and married a man named Matthew. She seems happy and when I get myself together a little more I plan on seeing if she’ll allow me to move in with her. I’m sure she’ll let me, she fawned on me so when I was a child ( ... )

You may think me sick. A corrupter of an innocent child, a perverse man hounding a pure and naïve soul who couldn’t possibly understand what was wanted from her. If Emily had had been a normal mortal human girl, you would be quite right. But remember, dear audience, under her glamour of innocence sweet Milly is a nymphet. She is by her very nature a coquettish seducer and ensnarer, born to tempt men, men who truly try to deny themselves in attempts to be decent people, into insanity and despair. Ah, Emily. Our Lady of the Maddening Desires ( ... )

Ivan tried very hard to deny his nature. He even spent eight years married to a lovely Hungarian woman, Elisaveta. What am I saying, even then I was giving in to my inner mad desire. Elisaveta was my Monique and Valeria all in one, a former nymphet who had grown past her immaculate and faultless state that maddened the soul and into a mundane and commonplace adult whose only signs of former splendor were slightly feline facial features and the fey charm that had first brought her to my attention.

We…got along. While I may not have loved her (and now that I think about it, I doubt she loved me that much either), I certainly didn’t not like her. We lived together, I went to work, came home, she’d fix dinner, we’d talk about nothing, and go to bed together. When needs be I can have normal relations with someone of similar age. I enjoyed the time we had together, but I wasn’t the least bit surprised or dismayed when she introduced the Austrian man she had been seeing for two years and announced that she wanted a divorce ( ... )

I think I should feel so wrong for loving this fill so far, but then I remind myself that Lolita is already one of my favorite books and that the book is no endorsement of pedophilia in spite of Humbert's beautiful prose.

Ivan really does sound crazed underneath his placid, purpley words, and you're managing to keep the style at least passably in line with the original book without making it a cookie-cutter rehash. So I do want to see this continued, anon!

THANK YOU. If you feel a little bad for reading this, just remember, I'm chanting "I'm going to hell I'm going to hell I'm going to hell" when I'm typing this.

You really think I made Ivan sound crazy? Thank you! I was having trouble with that! If it weren't for the thesaurus, I couldn't do the prose, but it wouldn't be a proper Lolita story without it. My OCD self just can't pick the logest prettiest synonym, I have to pick the one that fits just right and it takes a long time and...

Ahem, sorry. Thank you!

THIS IS GOOD, ANON.

I usually hate first-person style in fanfiction because it's so easy to do wrong, but I'm glad I decided to read this anyway because you're doing pretty well.

I didn't expect this to be filled, so this is a very pleasant surprise! I love it so far (and the way it kind of fits with Nabokov's style is REALLY awesome.)

Um, quick question. I've got two endings for this story I like, a bittersweet one and an extremely depressing one. What would you all like? Not that I'll be writing it for quite a while, but it would help knowing it as soon as possible!small ( ... )

Oh anon, you're doing an AWESOME job.

As far as the ending...I have a hard time choosing! I'm sure either would be great...but maybe the bittersweet one? I don't know, it's your call.

Small print of death strikes again! Sorry!

Being the fluff freak I am, I'll probably go for the bittersweet ending, OP. Hope you enjoy!5 ( ... )
