Joining the guess where Matt is game perhaps Matt has been shot? When he walked in and stopped Alfred from committing suicide, perhaps he did so by shooting himself? (or getting in Alfred's way?) Not necessarily dead, since that would have killed Canada the country as well, but badly wounded? Not that having something like that happen wouldn't drive Alfred a little bit more off the deep end.
Arrr, like a number of other readers I'm torn on poor Arthur. On the one hand he's one of my favorite characters and I really like him with Alfred, (plus he seems sorry) on the other hand what he did was not really something that can or should be forgiven and forgotten completely (but not sorry enough). I can't help but feel like a really good punishment (if Alfred is aware of his feelings) would be to tell Arthur that he loved him too. Loved. Past tense.
Oh Kiku, he seems to have almost accepted that he deserves this, yes?
I'll be eagerly waiting for more Author!Anon, great job so far!

Yeah, Kiku's the one who actually sorta grasps why Alfred is doing this.
Matthew's still alive. I should probably elaborate more on Alfred's suicide attempt, huh? His punishment is more or less self-inflicted. He knew that if Alfred went to that meeting, he'd be raped. And yet, he did nothing to stop him. His punishment is to live knowing that he could have saved his brother and didn't.

“Of course! Remember how you tried to make me look at you and I bit your hand?” Alfred said cheerfully, as though he and Francis were reminiscing about good times.
“I still have them, you know.”
“Go right ahead and show them to the world!” Alfred shrugged. “Dig your grave even deeper!”
Francis paused for a moment. As far as he knew, no one else had taken any pictures.
“You know the building actually has security cameras.”
Francis’s eyes widened. Alfred raised an eyebrow.
“… You really didn’t know, did you?”
“I was told that they had been turned off.” Francis muttered straining his neck to look at Arthur, who averted his eyes.
“So that’s how it is.” Alfred said quietly.
He rammed Francis’s head against the wall again.
“You know, I don’t really believe that you raped me because of the economy.” He said with venom. “If it were really about the economy, why didn’t you rape me during the Great Depression? Or any of the other recessions ( ... )

I think what chilled me the most is when Alfred was talking about his own boss like that... peace is supposed be a good thing O_O
And I really don't feel much sympathy for the group, because it seems like they still don't understand how much Alfred trusted them. Francis, especially you, if you don't have anything nice to say, SHUT UP.
Damn, Alfred is breaking my heart... especially the last bit when he started laughing... Excellent writing, I can't wait for the next chapter!
