Fandom: Star Wars
Pairing: Luke/Mara
Blurb: I've watched Star Wars since I was eight years old. I recently (2007), discovered that there existed an Expanded Universe. It took me a while to warm to Mara jade, but in the subsequent years, she's become my favourite fictional character.
I love their relationship. In general, Luke was/is portrayed as an omniscient, sanctimonious Jedi Master, who very few people are willing to question, not even Leia, except for Mara (and Han). Their relatioship started off badly, her being ordered to kill him by her late Master, Emperor Palpatine, but eventually, she and Luke become allies, later friends, and during one moment where they were fighting for their lives, they shared a force bond (Vision of the Future, by Timothy Zahn) and discovered the depth of their attraction and love.
She makes him more human, she accepts him for who he is. And he softens her, teaches her to trust and love. What could be more epic than that?
Fic Rec #1: Comittee Meeting
Author: Diane Kovalcin (at TFN Fanfic Archive)
Link:
HereRating/Warning(s): None. PG.
Why This Must Be Read: This is a really funny piece. It's set just after Luke and Mara get married, on their honeymoon night. If I say anything else, it'll give away the plot. Suffice to say, that Mara ultimately takes matters into her own, very capable hands.
Fic Rec #2 There is no Passion....
Author:EmmissaryoftheVoid (at the TFN Jedi Council Boards)
Link:
HereRating/Warning(s): PG-13/None
Why This Must Be Read: More fluff, this is a quick slice of life piece, that is based on the Jedi Dictum 'There is no passion'.
Fic Rec #3: Perfectly Normal
Author:
gabri_jadeLink:
HereRating/Warning(s): PG/None
Why This Must Be Read: I love
gabri_jade she is one of the best L/M authors in the fandom. I love how well she understands their relationship. This is a fic in 7 parts. Mara and Luke have just gotten engaged but the force life, keeps interrupting them when they want to spend time together.
Fic Rec #4: Against Gravity
Author:
obaonaLink:
HereRating/Warning(s): PG/AU/Dark.
Why This Must Be Read: I'm a sucker for Dark!Luke/Dark!Mara, it's obviously an AU. What if Luke and Mara fell to the Dark side, how would their life be then? Would that bring them closer or keep them apart. Gorgeous, evocative writing.
Fic Rec #5: Hit the Ground
Author: Rynne
Link:
HereRating/Warning(s): AU/Darkfic/PG-13
Why This Must Be Read: Again, I love dark!fic. Dark fic truly explores their characters. This is a look at what would happen if Luke had taken Vader's hand at Bespin. It's a piece on the inevitable tragedy of following the dark path. And yet, through it all, Luke and Mara find each other.
Fic Rec #6: Stuff
Author: Gheorghe2 (at ClubJade.net)
Link:
HereRating/Warning(s): Mature Themes
Why This Must Be Read: Arguably, this is one of the best looks at Luke and Mara's antagonistic/sexual tension filled relationships. It portrays Mara the way Zahn first wrote her. In my head, this how their relationship should've would've gone if left to be written in the right hands.
Fic Rec #7: All Roads lead to Hell
Author: vader_incarnate (at the TFN Jedi Council board)
Link:
HereRating/Warning(s): AU/Dark/Mature Themes
Why This Must Be Read: Written from Mara's point of view. It's her questioning her choices, and her attraction to the Dark Lord of Sith Luke Skywalker, Vader's son. It's gorgeous, brilliant, and so very very angst-filled.
Fic Rec #8: Slow Unfolding Science of Cosmology.
Author:
b_hallwardLink:
HereRating/Warning(s): PG/None
Why This Must Be Read: Author's Summary: "Marriage as a dialectical sequence"-just sums it up.
Fic Rec #9: Ways of Coming Home
Author:
deakaLink:
HereRating/Warning(s): G/None
Why This Must Be Read:
deaka, is again one of the best L/M writers out there. I love how much depth she gives characters, with only a few words. This is one such piece. It's a little look into Luke and Mara's anticipation. She's been away on a mission for Karrde, and are looking forward to seeing each other.
Fic Rec #10: What Love Is
Author: Corna (at FF.Net)
Link:
HereRating/Warning(s): G/None
Why This Must Be Read: This moved me so much. I cried at the end because it was such a beautiful look into a love that spans time, and is so utterly heartbreakingly wonderful.
Reccer's Note: (I hope this is allowed) This is just ten out of a 140 fics, I've stored in my list. I hope every one enjoys the stories.
