Oh, the boys. That scene on the field was just win, all around. "Chair says I win!" Hah! And yeah, the shot of Jason "standing" was awesome, and so short I nearly missed it.
I'm not really sold on the Tim-and-neihbor thing (what's that character's name?) because I suspect it'll be bad for the kid--Beau? And man, that's a tiny, tiny boy. Also weird. But funny, too. "Tim Riggins comes to get me at school!" He's loving having Tim as his pal, and if he suspects that Tim is using him to get close to his mother, that'll be a problem. But it does seem, despite this, that Tim's doing a little better--his willingness to actually talk about that with the guys was startling. I think he missed Street terriblyI liked Lyla's outrage, although her response was kind of over-the-top

Yeah, I don't think the neighbor thing will end well by any means -- I mean, just wait until his brother Billy finds out -- and neither did In the Bedroom, for that matter (<-- understatement!). But I can see it having some short term positives for Tim, just because of the attendant externalities of acting like a grown-up (cleaning her rain gutters, putting the kid to bed, etc.). But he's Tim Riggins and he's been screwed up from day 1, so it'll go both up and down before it's all over.
I think Lyla is really interesting as an idea of a character, someone who has a very carefully established image but who keeps acting against it in various ways: cheating, and now this. I was surprised by her response, but I can see where it comes from: Jason's essentially told her he doesn't think he wants to marry her anymore, and she sees that as being a result of his suspected infidelity which was a result of her infidelity which may be tracked back to her own father's predilections, plus factor in the 17 year old spoiled girl thing and, yah.

First, the boys. That was some powerful bonding, I tell you what. And "Man, that's so Brokeback" - perfect.
Third, Tyra and her mom. Oh yeah, I could totally see what would happen after Tyra's mom met with Tami. I like the way the writers are playing with the mother/daughter dynamics: First, Tami forbids Julie from hanging out with Tyra, who seems like a bad influence but is actually, possibly, the most level-headed female in Dillon, and the glue that holds her family together. Then once Tami tries to become Tyra's mentor, Tyra's mom feels threatened and tries to separate Tyra from Julie's family. And how heartbreaking was it to watch Tyra studying with Julie while Coach is making chili, and see how she was drinking in the sweet normalness of the Taylor household?
Fourth, the Taylors. Oh, man.*died* watching Mr. & Mrs. Coach dancing in their living room and *cackled* to myself watching Julie watch them dancing

Oooh, yeah, good call. It'll be really interesting to see how all of that plays out, because I'm not sure that Angela is quite at ease yet with Tyra's upward trajectory, so to speak, and Tami's definitely the big impetus for that.

Oh, HOW MUCH DID YOU LOVE Coach hurriedly going, "Actually, you don't need to lead with your hips so much --" I mean, BWAHAHAHA.
I'm wondering how much backstory we've been given on Tami & EricWe've gotten very, very little. I mean, next to nothing. I don't think I even know for sure how good of a football player Eric was in high school, although he mentions his dad being hard on him, I think in ep 2. And of course Tami's references to how her mother taught her about sex. But beyond that, really not much. This is not the type of show that will ever give us a flashback episode, but I would pay good money to see

you're never quite sure what path they'll take, because every one that that's been set up is plausibleYes! I think they do such amazing, natural progressions with the characterization, which is even cooler when you think about the extent to which they let the actors improvise their lines. I dunno if you saw that article about SPN's creative process from the Chicago Tribune (Maureen Ryan), but they described how the writers will give them the basic structure of a storyline or scene, and then let the actors deliver it in whatever way feels natural to them. To have such a loose seeming process cohere into something that feels so totally believable, no matter what new plot develops, is really impressive
