Momoko wasn't sure why her portal dropped her off on the far side of the island, or why it totally sounded like a laugh as it disappeared, but it totally wasn't going to spoil her happy mood! She was back at Fandom for a whole weekend with nothing to do but have fun

Jaime wasn't sure why his portal dropped him off on the wrong side of town, but he knew better than to complain to Portalocity. That never accomplished anything. So he slung his backpack over his shoulder and trudged his way toward town.

Or that's what he started out doing. Then he spotted a familiar shock of red hair and... paused. He should say hi, right? He probably should.

It would be the polite thing to do. Especially since at his natural pace he was totally going to overtake her in a moment or six. Unless he decided to slow down and enjoy the view take a different route into town, of course.

Actually, he did slow down. Not so much that he wasn't going to catch up in a minute or so, but enough to buy some time to think. Figure out exactly what he wanted to say.

Which would have been a lot easier if he hadn't gotten distracted by enjoying the view.

He'd better come up with something soon, then, because Momoko was just about to realize that the footsteps behind her had slowed but were still following her. She stepped a bit quicker and after a short distance, gave a small skip and turned round.

"Ah! Jaime!" Her prepared smile of casual and curious greeting actually grew ecstatic for a moment, seeing him so unexpectedly. "Hi! Are you coming or going?"

That smile.

For a second Jaime forgot how to breathe. Or do anything else.

Fortunately he recovered relatively quickly, and grinned back. "Coming. Needed a weekend off, figured I'd swing back by the island." He cocked his head slightly to one side. "You?

"Same!" She bounced lightly as she waited for him to catch up, her good mood and sense of utter freedom and normalcy totally overpowering anything else she was feeling right now. She was home.

Although she had to struggle to not reach out for his arm. "I totally needed a break. School, work, school, work. Ugh!"

Momoko gave a chuckle. "Isn't it weird that we came here to relax? And that maybe I'm looking forward to an invasion or something?"

Jaime laughed. "You know, now that you mention it, that is really worrying, isn't it?"

"Ah! And Dinah's going to be here, too. It will be like old times! Except we won't be in the dorms, of course. It's been forever since all of us have been together on the island!"

"It has, hasn't it?" Jaime asked with a grin, finally catching up with her and reaching out for a quick hug. Nothing too long. Didn't want to make her uncomfortable or anything.

He just... well, it had been a while. And he needed it.

She hadn't been expecting it, but she totally should have. It took no time for her arms to come around him and to squeeze back, which was good considering how short the hug was.

She'd gotten better hugs as a friend before dating him, she suddenly realized and wow did that thought hurt.

But she rallied and shoved the thought back; Momoko totally wasn't going to let anything ruin her weekend! Especially if Jaime was here, too. "A whole weekend with my two best friends, relaxing and just having fun! Some shopping maybe. The beach or the Onsen. Maybe a few night-trips into Baltimore... I totally couldn't have planned it better!"

"Night trips to Baltimore?" Jaime laughed and rolled his eyes. "I thought you were here for a vacation."

Best not to think too much about the Onsen. Yes. Better for Jaime's peace of mind, at least.

"From work and school!" Momoko gave his shoulder a light push as she made a face at him. "Do you even know how long it's been since I did any heroing? Well, except for helping Leda, but that doesn't count because it was more like a tiny war."

"I guess there's not that much call for you and the girls these days back home, huh?" Jaime asked, offering Momoko a sympathetic smile. He knew how much that mattered to her.

"Try none?" Not going to get upset! Not going to let it take away the happy! "Now it only takes one of us to do almost anything. I guess me being gone was a good thing for everyone!"

"Well, I sure lucked out," Jaime pointed out with a smile that was mostly not awkward.

Aww! Make her wibbly and all, sure.

"Getting to meet me? Of course! Totally the best day of your life!" She teased back. "Ah! We should do that! Get some remote control toys and race them or something! Something totally fun!" And then go beat up drug couriers and rescue cats from trees in Baltimore.
