Momoko had a guest for the weekend! She got Kaoru from Jaime's room to the fifth floor and into room 512, finally, and was pacing the room babbling happily.
"I want you to meet someone too." Leda said, pulling a dark haired girl with blue tips by the hand. "Momoko, this is Sparks. Sparks, this is Momoko. My hero. Well one of them."
"Glamour? What's glamour?" Momoko asked, confused. "Oh! And the girl on the bed is my friend Kaoru from home. Kaoru, this is Leda and her friend Sparks."
Leda and Sparks waved to Kaoru. "Hi!" Leda smiled. "Pleased to meet you. Oh, uh, glamour's kind of like, cosmetic magic. It's what I use to color my hair."
Momoko waved them in and offered them seats. "I knew you did magic, but I didn't know you used it on your hair! I didn't know magic could be used like that."
Honestly, she'd never thought much about what magic was used for. "And why would your magic be better here than at home? Isn't that kind of backwards? Your powers should work better when you're at home."
"It's the way things are in Bordertown. See, in the human world of the Earth where I'm from, there is no magic. But in Faerie, there's no technology. Well...I guess there's some if you count water pumps and crossbows and stuff. But complex machinery wouldn't work there. But in Bordertown, the two worlds kind of mix together. So it makes both magic and technology kind of screwy. The simpler the spell or mechanism, the more likely it is to work the way you want it to." She hoped that made sense.
"So your world is actually two worlds right next to each other? Do you mean like two planets or two dimensions?" Momoko asked, sounding confused.
"It has to be dimensions or something, Momoko; it's not possible for two planets to be that close to each other." Kaoru pointed out, then pulled her leg up and rested her head on her knee as she rolled her eyes. "And I can't even believe I am saying that."
"It is two dimensions." Sparks said. "I'm pretty sure. Centuries ago Faerie and the human world were pretty intermingled. But then at some point they became completely separated. Then, I guess about 20 years or so ago the border between the worlds kind of reappeared. Bordertown's the city where the actual portal is, and some of Faerie kind of bled into it and the surrounding area."
"Exactly. I heard about this girl recently who tried to make a documentary about Bordertown with a cam-corder. But it kind of..what she'd recorded, and what wound up playing back were two different things. I haven't heard anyone agree on just what they saw in the play-back."
This included knocking on the doors of anyone she knew so she could show off her friends to each other.
"Knock knock!"

"From what I understand," Sparks added. "It's easier here. Back home magic and technology are unpredictable."
