Sunday, Momoko's Back Yard, El Paso Texas

Dec 07, 2014 01:32

The weather was fine, mid-60s with no rain and a slight breeze. The backyard at Mrs Wilson's was big enough, though, that Momoko had set up a tent in case anyone from the colder climates decided that it was too warm. The rest of the yard was decorated in banners and streamers and balloons. Mostly green, though there was some pink sneaking through ( Read more... )

"They are my utmost concern," Raven said. "I will do all I can to make certain they are healthy and loved. It is almost like having children of my own."

Her gaze slid over to Karla again. "I always thought it would be unwise of me to have a child of my own blood. How could I condemn a child to struggle as I have struggled? It would not be fair of me. But sometimes...." She shrugged and shook her head.

"You can always adopt a child as your own," Hannibal pointed out.

"That is true," Raven said. "But it is not the same."

A pang of envy she had been feeling for awhile grew a little more inside her. "And it is not fair," she murmured.

"No, it is not," Hannibal agreed. "Would you prefer a child of your own, then? They might have an easier time of it than you did, surrounded by support and emotions."

"Perhaps," Raven said wistfully. "It should not be a gift allowed only to others. I deserve such blessings as well, do I not?"

"In my experience, parenthood is rarely limited to those who deserve it," Hannibal answered. "But you deserve many good things."

Envy was happily making its home in Raven now, worming its way into her heart

"I do," Raven agreed firmly. "There is no reason I should be denied what others have. I am just as deserving."

"You are," Hannibal agreed. You were plucking at little alarm strings in Hannibal's brain, though, Raven.

Jono was now parking himself over here after being unwittingly chased away from the skeptical looks he'd been giving the baby food, so that he could quietly try to will himself into spontaneously growing a mouth.

Yep. Any minute now. Really. Aaaany minute. Those scones were practically crying his name.

No luck.

Fortunately, Hannibal was there!

He chuckled at the look Jono was giving the food. "What would you like to try?"

//All of it,// Jono mumbled, a little pathetically. //Which is nothing new, really. I am intrigued by that spread you've got for the scones, though...//

He was intrigued by all of it. And feeling kind of extra British today, or something.

"Citrus butter." Hannibal got a scone and a bit of the butter. "I thought it would go nicely with them." He buttered a little piece and put it in his mouth, where the flaky scone practically melted.

Yep, we had a winner, here. Jono managed by some miracle to remain standing, but his eyes were closed and he was practically radiating appreciation across the backyard at large.

He was kind of trying to rein it in. A little. Ish.

//... I... think you've accomplished that goal,// he shared, with a hand pressed lightly against where his mouth would go.

After the week that Jono had had, a bit of extra appreciation was perfectly understandable. Hannibal was just going to slowly and attentively finish the scone.

//Thank you, Hannibal, mate,// Jono murmured, once the scone was gone. //I needed that.//

He needed pretty much anything to focus on that wasn't the leftover scuddy feeling of a mouldy ghost setting up camp inside his head. The scones were a fantastic alternative.
