A question. [Cloud says it like it's punctuated with "for you strange people."]

If you don't have a Lifestream keeping your Planet alive, what's holding it together?

Sticky tape.

...how much?

Enough to cover the moon. But they add more every time they see a new crack.

There is no way your Planet has that much tape. I'm calling your bluff.

The World Tree and the Mana it produces.

So you have mana too. And you use it to cast magic and stuff?

Basically, yeah. I could get into specifics about where it comes from and what it can do, but it'd be a pretty long explanation.

No, I think it's okay.

[Pause.] ...did uh...elves plant that tree, by any chance?

That's not what I'm talking about.

I thought I was pretty specific in the first place.

What keeps your Planet from dying?

[a little absently]...there's something that might be called by that name in my world. But I doubt they're the same thing.

What is it?

A river of light, that runs under the earth. [brief, today] It's the source of all life, you could say.

That sounds like the Lifestream, definitely. Why don't you think it's the same thing?

...Gravity. Rotation. The fact that it's pretty solid. Physics. And yeah, all that, according to scientific theory, leads to life and keeping life when all the right elements are mixed together in just the right percentage.

If you're looking for a more mystical explanation, if you find the right people, they'll tell you it's the will of God...or at least one of them, depending on which religion they follow.

I'm not talking about gravity and I'm not talking about anything mystical. If souls and where they go is myth for you, then you don't know what I'm talking about.

Actually, I believe in souls, and what happens to them on my world, so you're getting snappy at the wrong person, here. I was just keeping the conversation neutral in case one or the other type of belief didn't fly with you.

[Eurgh. He's right.]

Sorry. Yeah. I'm getting snappy with the wrong person.

But souls and life energy and stuff isn't something you just "believe" in where I'm from. It's fact.
