Nexus: Anna, Part whatever

Aug 07, 2007 22:23

Clark's been back at Oliver's place for a while now, having taken care of everything he needed to back in Smallville. He's not completely surprised that Anna isn't here (although a note would have been nice) so he's occupied himself unpacking a few new groceries and making an important phone call.

He and Anna have a few things to talk about.

"Aha," he says a moment later, having located the utensils. "And thank you for not expecting me to use chopsticks."

Picking up her own pair of chopsticks - helpfully provided by the Chinese takeout people - Anna grins brightly. "Of course."

He shakes his head with an exaggerated sigh.

"Why anyone would want to use two sticks when there are perfectly good forks available is beyond me."

"Embrace the cultural diversity," she says, chuckling. "Trust me, after a while it all starts to make sense."

"I grew up in farm country rural Kansas. Cultural diversity to us is a different breed of cattle."

"Yeah, yeah. Weren't you just telling me to accept the fake French restaurants?" Anna grins.

"Ah, but this is Metropolis," he points out, emptying one of the bags and lining up the food cartons on the counter. "I grew up in Smallville."

She shakes her head, grin undiminished. "Keep your fork then, cheri."

"Oh, I will. Last thing you want is to see me reduced to eating with my fingers and that'd be far easier than using those things," he nods toward Anna's chopsticks.

"It just takes practice, is all."

Demonstratively, Anna grabs a plate and begins loading it with food using the aforementioned chopsticks. She makes the task look a great deal easier than it is.

"And why," he starts, piling food up on his fork, "would I want to learn how to eat all over again when I already know perfectly well?"

"Because this way looks cooler," she says serenely.

Chopsticks seem to offer whole new worlds of birdlike food-pecking opportunities, at least. Worlds of which Anna is taking full advantage.

Clark snorts. "It looks like way too much effort for food that's only going to fill me up for a couple of hours."

"Ehh." Anna flaps a hand at him, grinning. "Have it your way, mon cher."

He just gives her a look, though still mostly amused, and then occupies himself with his food.

Anna, for her part, is entirely amused. Arguments about cutlery are a funny, funny thing, after all.

She also might be showing off just a little. Normally she'd use a fork for the rice. It would seem she can manage adequately without one, however.
