[meatspace] "In Which We Are Introduced to Winnie-the-Pooh and Some Bees and the Stories Begin"

Sep 10, 2006 23:58

In discussing her then-impending visit to me&ANTS, Ari said "then to embark on a New Adventure" which I commented sounded like out of Winnie Ther Pooh, which led to her saying, "Tomorrow, the Exciting Adventure in the Hundred Acre Wood that is Boston and Surrounding Suburbs begins ( Read more... )

This begged the question of which characters we are -- which was answered by the note she left me Friday morning addressed to Rabbit and signed Piglet. Aww, that sounds right :) And we of course know who I am.

Yeah, I think that Ari and I friended each other while I was in Scotland? And I remember being surprised months later to learn that you two had only just friended each other.

I kind of miss you both! I know that I'll definitely be seeing you, at least, in a little over a month--am officially registered for the theology conference at the Greek Orthodox seminary--I just don't know whether I'll be arriving in Boston on Wed. night or Thursday, but will of course be in touch with you about all that once I know.

(21 December 2003.) Yeah, we were both really surprised to realize it this weekend.

Oh yes. I'd forgotten about October. (Though I did apparently think ahead to put it on my calendar :) ) The plan was that I would take Monday off from work so I could return leisurely that day, correct?

I doubt it would work out for all three of us to get together during that October time, but maybe we can manage something eventually -- we do have a couple years, after all :)

Yep, I was planning on your being here Monday--and you'd be welcome to attend Old Testament, chapel, and systematic theology with me.

Oh I hope I didn't come off as being judgmental about it or anything, 'cause that's not how I meant it. I do very much understand feeling not able to write one or the other (m/m or f/f) and certainly there can be a point at which the numbers are just way slanted so it's not fair to put yourself in a position where the odds are so high that you won't be able to participate like you want to ( ... )

Since I was very aware of how I could have sounded (and because I realized I hadn't clarified/qualified in the original entry) I jumped to make sure my intention was clear in case I had offended. You sounded like you were fairly explaining/defending your particular position, I'm just highly sensitized (from experience) to how things can be misinterpreted, so I tend to clarify/qualify like whoa.

So "Excessively skinny fashion models will be barred from a major Madrid fashion show later this month for fear they could send the wrong message to young Spanish girls, local media reported."

My first thought: That's really not a fit subject for legislation. Any more than barring excessively gay people from a fashion show "for fear they could send the wrong message to young Spanish girls."

My second thought, after finding out that the regional government is co-financing the show, "Well, if they're just buying something, I suppose they can set any conditions they want on what they buy."

My third thought, "Why the $#@! are the local people being forced (taxes aren't voluntary) to co-finance a fashion show? What the &#^k is a regional government doing in the fashion business?
