I wrote this Cap/Thor compilation for the
1sentence fic challenge while LJ was down last week. I may or may not have borrowed the title from a roller coaster.
Fandom: Thor/Captain America (Avengers movieverse)
Pairing: Thor Odinson/Steve Rogers
Theme set: Epsilon
Title: American Thunderstorm
Rating: PG-13
Warning[s]: SPOILERS for both films, some non-graphic m/m sexual situations.
Notes: This forms a narrative arc that covers several months at the very least.
Disclaimer: I do not own Thor or Captain America, not even in action figure form.
1. Motion
Steve ducks as the hammer flies past his head, straight into the wall, and he catches his first glimpse of the so-called God of Thunder.
2. Cool
After seeing Thor in his full armor alongside Tony’s levitating robotic suit, Steve feels pretty damn square in basic red, white, and blue.
3. Young
He’s heard that Thor is hundreds of years old, but Steve thinks he acts like a child, like when he throws that damn hammer or breaks furniture out of excitement, and Steve would like nothing more than to scream at Thor to act his own damn age.
4. Last
Steve begins to realize that it’s only during Avengers missions and meetings that he forgets he’s the last Howling Commando, a member of a dying generation.
5. Wrong
He catches Thor shirtless one day in the gym, and finds himself staring, almost wanting to touch, before he runs out, alarmed at his own thoughts.
6. Gentle
In the first of many similar dreams, Steve feels Thor rubbing those giant hands against his thighs, slowly and casually, not the way he would expect in any of his waking thoughts.
7. One
One super-soldier, one god, one billionaire, one giant green monster…it dawns on him that they’re united in their singularity.
8. Thousand
Tony takes them all to a casino, and Steve laughs as Thor pulls and pokes at the thousand dollar bills before tying them together to make a necklace.
9. King
When they all pull off a mission in Asgard, Thor becomes regal, almost responsible, and Steve doesn’t even notice that he doesn’t want to yell at Thor once.
10. Learn
They somehow end up all alone in the mansion, watching Star Wars together, and Steve learns that Thor instinctively understands science fiction far more than he ever will.
11. Blur
Steve sees a quick flash of red before Thor clocks him in the face during a heated battle with Doom’s newest creations.
12. Wait
He hates that word: he’s lost so much time to it, and it sounds so damn annoying coming from Thor.
13. Change
Thor’s glances, his smiles, his laughter all start becoming a little softer, and it freaks Steve out.
14. Command
“Don’t ever order me to do your laundry again, Thor.”
15. Hold
Steve still can’t figure out why, if he’s the peak of human potential, he can’t even pick up one oversized hammer.
16. Need
The dreams grow more intense until Steve wakes up completely sweaty, his cock throbbing.
17. Vision
Steve doesn’t even notice he’s been injured until the world goes fuzzy before it turns black.
18. Attention
He wakes up on a cot in the S.H.I.E.L.D. infirmary at 3:00 A. M. to find Thor slumped over in a chair, sleeping.
19. Soul
“Steve, will you help me order Bruce to turn off that strange, loud, moaning music?”
20. Picture
He keeps tearing up his attempted sketches because Thor’s shoulders aren’t broad enough or his hair is too short or his nose is too wide-why can’t he capture someone he sees every day?
21. Fool
He shouldn’t be surprised when Thor’s hair grows darker, his eyes turn green and his body becomes lean and rigid underneath Steve’s fingertips after stealing a kiss in an empty corridor.
22. Mad
Every time Thor enters a room, Steve looks away because he really doesn’t want to sock the brother who doesn’t deserve it.
23. Child
“No, you can’t eat whipped cream in the bathtub because you’re not four years old.”
24. Now
Right in this moment, as the rain streams down Thor’s helmet and onto his face, into his beard, Steve struggles against the urge to kiss his lips raw.
25. Shadow
Thor’s silhouette is apparently the only thing Steve can draw accurately.
26. Goodbye
Thor hugs him tightly and tells him not to fret, for he would not tarry in Asgard long.
27. Hide
Steve hates locking himself in the bathroom in the middle of the night after another dream, cock hard, but he can’t think of anything else to do about it.
28. Fortune
He comes back right in the middle of a thunderstorm.
29. Safe
“Rest, my friend-I swear by Mjolnir I will keep the nightmares at bay.”
30. Ghost
“Do you still see them, Captain-your friends lost in battle?”
31. Book
Thor asks him to read the Harry Potter books to him, so Steve does, but they both get lost halfway through Book 4, when Steve has to start drawing up charts to connect all of the minor characters.
32. Eye
One day, Steve swears he can feel Thor’s gaze sweeping up and down his half-naked body in the gym.
33. Never
On an extremely sunny day, Steve slams his sketchbook shut and decides his drawings will never be more than rough, half-finished attempts to grasp something he’ll never have.
34. Sing
As terrible as that strange “Lady Gaga” music already is, Thor’s singing voice only makes it worse.
35. Sudden
His knees buckle when Thor slips an arm around his waist and their lips really do meet-or rather, smash against each other.
36. Stop
Steve pulls away, not sure if he should smack Thor or just kiss him again.
37. Time
Steve lets one stretched-out week crawl by before he kisses Thor back.
38. Wash
He’s pretty sure they’ve developed something when he pulls Thor into the shower and hands him the soap.
39. Torn
“Oh, man, I didn’t even know your cape could tear!”
40. History
“I hope you know, dear Captain, that you’re not the first man my brother has mooned over.”
41. Power
After one particularly sweaty, playful round, their combined strength cracks the bed’s metal frame, so Steve suggests that they switch to the floor.
42. Bother
“Loki, if you try to give me anymore ‘helpful’ hints about your brother, I don’t think I will be responsible for my actions.”
43. God
“You know, Steve, you should not believe all those things in those silly mythology books-full of lies, the lot of them.”
44. Wall
Every time after they finish, just for a few moments, Steve wonders how thin the mansion’s walls are, but then he gets distracted by one of Thor’s bear-hugs.
45. Naked
Thor surprises him one evening by sprawling out naked across the bed; Steve scrounges around for his sketchbook.
46. Drive
“Steve, I have decided that you should teach me how to drive-I’m sure Tony can lend us a car, if cajoled properly.”
47. Harm
The most difficult part of the driving lessons is teaching Thor that stopping for pedestrians and stopping for squirrels are two different things.
48. Precious
When they return from one of their more exhausting missions, Thor hands Mjolnir to Steve-this time, he doesn’t drop it.
49. Hunger
There’s only one other time that Steve has ever seen Thor so hungry, and it isn’t at the breakfast table.
50. Believe
On one long, humid night, Steve runs his hand through Thor's thick hair and notices that he trusts this brash thunder god more than anyone else in this bizarre new world.
