Corn! Corn! Corn! I really want a corn icon, but it's remarkably difficult to find photos (not drawings) of a single whole ear of corn. So instead we're back to the eggplant. Yay, eggplant

You made me a corn icon! Nobody's tried to make me a vegetable icon before; I'm so pleased! I'd already made my own by the time I saw you'd posted this, but I *really* appreciate your thinking of me.
I'll post the recipe. I have *lots* of eggplant recipes. Do you know patlican (Turkish)? Eggplant and long bean stew (Indonesian)? Eggplant with yogurt and mustard seeds (Bengali)? Ooo, and I have this new Keralan eggplant recipe that I haven't tried yet -- got it from a restaurant in London.
I don't know any of these, but I have a fantastic Moroccan eggplant salad and a wonderful eggplant-oriented summer veggie stew/ragout/thingie. I'd be happy to share.
Nobody can resist corn! It's the ultimate summer vegetable! ...um, along with all my other favorite summer vegetables.
Thank you so much for the icon -- as I told kitkatbyte, I'd already made my new icon by the time I got yours, but I really appreciate your going to the trouble to make one for me!
I Feel So Inspired After Reading Your Weekly Veggie ReportmorgandawnAugust 3 2003, 16:52:49 UTC
Actually, my neighbor has been dropping off boxes and bags of overflowing veggies on my doorstep. Perhaps someone can help me identify them. We’ve been eating them for weeks without knowing what they are.
1. A round yellow/orange stubbly thing that looks and taste like a cucumber.
2. A squash that looks like a bathtub plug (wider at the top, round and then narrower at the bottom) that is white. Exterior is very soft and smooth.
3. A round melon shape that has a hard exterior -- inside looks like a squash and the seeds need to be scooped out. It is white with small green stripes.
4. Another zucchini like veggie --except it is pale green with white.
We can figure out the tomatoes pretty well, but these have us stumped. And since there are so many neighbors and it is a tradition to leave these “gifts” anonymously, we can’t go up and down the street asking …..
1. I'm sure it *is* a cucumber -- though not a variety I know.
2. Probably a pale pattypan squash; is it shaped like this? I haven't seen white ones myself, but I know they come in lots of colors. They're *really* good -- I just had some on pizza this evening. Also, they're great for stuffing (I use tomatoes and quinoa).
3. How hard is the exterior? It sounds like it might be a variety of delicata, but that's more or a winter squash. Hmmm. If it's a summer squash, possibly calabacitas if you live in California or the southwest (I've never seen it elsewhere).
4. Pretty common zucchini varietal -- I don't think it has a special name.
Any zephyr squash? Those are so cool. And are the tomatoes heirloom tomatoes? Brandywines and black tomatoes are my favorites.

I'm glad you like the market reports; they're tremendously fun to write *and* they help me plan food for the rest of the week.

1. Is a lemon cucumber:

2. Is an "Early White Bush Scallop" squash -- same family as the pattypan.
3. Is indded a delicata:

4. We also have some globe squash it seems.
Some neighbor is getting quite inventive this year. Yeah!
