Corn! Corn! Corn! I really want a corn icon, but it's remarkably difficult to find photos (not drawings) of a single whole ear of corn. So instead we're back to the eggplant. Yay, eggplant!
Speaking of eggplant, I got some. Not globe eggplant like in the picture, though; several little japanese eggplants, the pale purple kind, for making Filipino eggplant fans (one of my favorite summer lunch/snack foods).
I'm due to get part of somebody else's CSA share this week, for reasons much too boring to go into, and therefore tried to keep the veggie purchases minimal. So: some corn, a variety of yellow summer squashes to go into a soup with the corn, an anaheim chile and some cilantro to go on top of the soup, the aforementioned eggplants, a single beautiful red pepper, cippolini onions, fresh garlic and five large bunches of basil (guess what I'm making as soon as I pick up some pine nuts . . .). Also a pint of wild blackberries, which sadly I cannot eat while typing 'cause I'll stain the keyboard.
I know that sounds like a lot, but come on - I didn't get any beans (though the purple beans and wax beans were spectacular this week), no tomatoes of any kind (I may have to break down and get some of the sungold grape tomatoes at Tuesday's market), no cucumber, no greens, no beets, no melons, no currants, no carrots, no potatoes, not even mushrooms.
And yet my refrigerator is suspiciously full.
Clearly the only solution is to go eat the pint of blackberries.
