Parks & Rec, gender socialization, and vidsongs, but not all at once

Okay, people who love Parks & Rec, I need you to level with me. I do not normally watch half-hour comedies -- in fact the only such show I have ever watched with real enjoyment is Sports Night -- but I know that this is true for some of you as well. And I have seen some charming gifsets on Tumblr, and I love sisabet's delightful vid from a few years back ( Read more... )

Parks and Rec was terrible in its first season. Skip to season three and it's hitting its stride.

And well done on catching the email and revising it!

Skipping to S2 seems to be the general consensus, but I am keeping S3 in mind in case S2 is still unwatchable for me!

I am glad I caught the email but so irked that I *needed* to catch it, you know?

I really hate that a) I am expected to be nice (as opposed to simply being clear); b) gender-appropriate niceness includes the tendency to apologize for things that require no apology. I want people to stop being stupid and give me the info I need! Why so difficult?

Parks and Rec changes considerably between season one (when I stopped watching originally) and season two, which I tried again a couple of years later. At that point, it became one of my favorite shows ever on the planet.

And gosh, I do that, too, in e-mails. I hate it when I catch myself apologizing for things I'm not at all sorry for and am perfectly in my rights to ask for.

(I got your other e-mail, and thank you. <3 I shall reply tomorrow when I am at my computer for a stretch longer than five minutes at a time.)

Yeah, I'm glad I posted about P&R; "skip to S2" is definitely the general consensus.

No more fake apologizing for me! I can be polite without apologizing. I just have to figure out how. Heh.

Yes, skip to S2. The opener of that season is what sold me on the show. It's full of wonderful characters and relationships (that's what it's about, really), and it will give you lots of feelings. You just have to get past the part where they thought they were a ridiculous comedy about ridiculous things and get to the part where they realized they were a heartwarming comedy about terrific people.
