I love the slow burn of this show - it leads up to perfect perfect moments that are astonishing for being on network TV, but which take episodes to come together. So, yes, liking it is where it starts. And from your mouth to TPTB's ears about it not going the way of Heroes . . .

Heroes and Elementary are obviously very different kinds of shows, so I am not overly worried. But that WAS the last time that particular one-two combo sucked me into a show, so. If a brain-stealing serial killer gets away at the end of S1 of Elementary, I am going to be CRABBY, is all.

Like I'd said, the cases are mediocre most of the time (they do improve somewhat over time), but the sensitivity with which the writers handle the slow-evolving relationship between Sherlock and Joan is a thing of beauty. I didn't love it right off the bat either -- more like intrigued by the possibility inherent in the dynamic between the two. I think I got truly fannish around... episode four? And from episode nine and on, it is pretty consistently awesome (although by that time, I was pretty ga-ga over the show so I might not be the most reliable of its critics ( ... )

And hey, I've been watching Haven; I know allll about handwaving the case of the week for the sake of the relationship between the leads. And, as you well know, that partner dynamic is fannish catnip for me.
fundamentally decent people who have become a bit lost and broken, coming together and finding clarity in the path ahead in each other's company.That is indeed a bulletproof narrative kink of mine, and a lovely way of describing it. It's similar but not identical to the found family thing that I also love. But yeah, broken people helping each other cope -- let's see, Firefly, Farscape, Friday Night Lights... yep ( ... )
