I've been thinking about getting an additional pair of kittens for while now; I have the space, I like kittens, I like the fact that kittens turn into cats, and my one of my two longtime companion cats has demonstrated fondness for kittens (and particularly for being chased by kittens) in the past.
I visited some kittens (currently in foster care) early last week, and several of them were charming, but none of them seemed to need to be MY kittens. This was disappointing, but not a big deal; kittens tend to be a renewable resource around here.
Yesterday at the fair a couple of kids had a box of free kittens, not quite eight weeks old. Long story short: two of them needed to be my kittens, and I brought them home.

This is the one where you can best see how different their markings are -- Toby (on the left) is a mackerel tabby and Theo is a classic tabby.
Toby, alert
Toby knows that it is important to be Very Watchful.
Theo kills the glitterball!
The glitterball was the Best Thing Ever... until I brought in the scratching post.
I've
posted some additional photos as well.
They are friendly and fearless and talkative and settling in very happily. They're in quarantine for the time being, until I get them to the vet for a thorough checkup and their first round of shots (and until I get the rest of the house properly kittenproofed), and then we'll see how the integration goes, but I am feeling pretty optimistic.
In conclusion: kittens!
