Holy wow.

That's gorgeous.

I have to watch it a few more times before I can offer coherent commentary, but -- first reaction is that I adored it. You made really nice use of...can I call them screenshots? Shots of the cartoon that had Miranda encoded in it; shots of Mal's record ("Volunteer"). And how balletic River can be. And the juxtaposition of those last images: the funeral, blood dripping from River's blade, Mal bloodied but unbowed.

Makes me want to watch the movie again, right now. :-)

God, I love your icon. Mal's read a poem! I could not love him more. "Bloodied but unbowed" is EXACTLY the phrase I was thinking of when I laid that last clip, and my storyboard actually uses the phrase "balletic violence" in a couple of places. Clearly we share a brain.

And thanks for mentioning the... yes, let's call them screenshots. (EVIL OCTOPUS OMG!) I learned that from killabeez -- the value of finding and using shots of *things* as well as people. It's finally starting to feel natural to me, and I'm so glad it worked for you in this vid.

Eep, that last comment was meant for the person who linked me to this post.

Too many gosh darn windows open. ::grumble, grumble::

Heh. Good thing I'm a feedbacker anyway, since otherwise I'd be caught. Be back later. :)

OK, I'm back to say...

That was amazing. Probably the most graphically interesting vid I've seen. As I've rewatched Serenity I've been more and more impressed with the framing and cinematography and you showcased that incredibly well in this but beyond that you created new juxtapositions that are on their own new level of formal beauty.

Also, I admire the fluidity of your transitions considering how fast-paced the editing was. It's hard to do that without it seeming...cluttered, if that makes any sense.

I've noticed that an interesting thing seems to be happening with the BDM vids that I've seen...they tend to focus on Mal and River which makes sense because a gen vid of the film is basically the vidders interpretation/reading of the film and also a crystallization of it. And the movie was (mostly) about Mal and River.

All right, my rambling here is now complete. *g*

Thank you so much for your detailed comments; I appreciate them tremendously. I'm especially grateful for your kind words about the transitions; I struggled with exactly that conflict between pacing and clutter, so I'm very glad to hear the results worked for you.

The BDM really is incredibly beautiful -- it was extremely rewarding to work with. And I think you're quite right about the movie lending itself primarily to Mal and/or River vids; I'd love to make a vid about Zoe or Kaylee or Inara at some point, but there's very little in the movie that would be of use. Which is not a slam at the movie at all -- it had to have a focus, and I love its focus; it's just that I long for another, oh, six or seven seasons of the show. Heh.

Um... does it make me a bad person if I now suddenly find myself shipping Mal/Zoe just because of the OMGSOHOT way they go through a door together?

Hmm, I'm not sure if I liked it. Let me calm down and play it 500 more times to check. :D

OMG I rate the adorable Buffy icon! I win at life!

Also: ZOE! It killed me not to be able to include more of her in this vid, or in "Thistledown" for that matter. If I ever find the right song, I'd vid her in a heartbeat.

This is me, making grabby hands for Slayage. wow.

I loved the internal movement in this vid. I actually broke my own rule of watching a vid straight through before I go with the starting and stopping and rewinding and fast forwarding. When I saw Miranda spinning and then River's brain spinning, I *had* to stop and go back to look. And then I did it *again* when I saw Serenity spinning and River spinning--both of them weapons. sigh.

I love, too, how you made your jumpcuts look slippery. :) Just..gorgeous.

Like I told you before, if you want it for Slayage? It's yours.

Thank you so much for this comment. You know how much your good opinion means to me, right? A LOT, just so we're clear.

Miranda spinning and then River's brain spinning... Serenity spinning and River spinning--both of them weapons.

I love, I LOVE, that you get this, that you saw it right away. New frontiers. Experimented on, damaged, made into abominations, working with the only powers they have.

And if you mean the fade-y jumpcuts of Mal at the end? That was all Flo's idea, for which I could not be more grateful.
