notes on Farscape S3, 3x19 (I-Yensch, You-Yensch) - 3x21 (ItLD 2: Wolf In Sheep's Clothing)

Past Farscape posts are indexed here.

PLEASE NOTE: I am watching Farscape for the first time, and I am staying resolutely spoiler free. As of this writing, the last episode I've seen is 4x13 (Terra Firma). You're welcome to comment on any eps I've seen, including those not mentioned here, but if you spoil me, I will beat you to death with a shovel ( Read more... )

oh yeah and wait until you get to the ep where -- hey, hold on, put down that shovel. Nice fan, give me the shovel, be a good fan. Ouch!

I really, REALLY can't wait to see what you say about the next ep. Oh yeah.

Thank you, again, for posting these reviews. They really are soo interesting to read. And I keep going back to earlier seasons--"What's her opinion on 'Won't Get Fooled Again'?" If there's one thing I love about the Scaper community, it's not just "SQUEEE hotness!" but a lot of thoughtful analysis. :)

I have... kind of a lot of notes on the next ep, which is why I quit when I did. I was tired, man.

Glad you're still liking the notes. I haven't had much chance to read thoughtful analysis myself, for fear of spoilers, so I haven't personally experienced the phenomenon with Farscape the way I have with Buffy. I'm planning to be all caught up by the time the miniseries airs, so that I can participate in real-time Farscape discussion for the first time -- which I'm looking forward to almost as much as the miniseries itself.

You'll note the one good thing to come out of I-Yensch would be ... my icon. ;) But yeah, it's definitely the quotable that defines the season, for me.

I LOVE that icon. Love. it. And, because you have that icon, I never need to watch the episode again.

Annoying as it was? It still wasn't as awful as "Jeremiah Crichton." Not even close.

Beautiful posts, as usual. I'm surprised by your restraint on "I-Yensch, You-Yensch" (to me the most irritating episode they ever made), but not at all surprised by the depth of your thoughts on "Into the Lion's Den". There are some magical moments in that two-parter.

Apart from Crais and Talyn's sacrifice, which continues to make my heart hum with pleasure and make me search desperately for the right Crais song (*g*), I think my favorite moment in these episode is probably when D'Argo gets those damned rings out. I don't think I knew how much I cared about him until that happened.

...to me the most irritating episode they ever made...

Yeah, I buy that. Not the *worst*, I think, but most irritating. I think the fact that this was the middle of a marathon really helped me glide over a certain amount of that irritation.

And yeah, D'Argo getting those rings out... and getting the files on his wife's murderer! This two-parter is a great reminder that, hey, the characters who aren't John and Aeryn still have agendas and desires and priorities of their own. I love J&A, but (as we've talked about before) I really wish Farscape were more of an ensemble show.

Oh, marvelous commentary. Marvelous.

I remember getting the tape from infinitemonkeys, all the way from the UK, and putting it in. I watched IYYY, stopped to make pumpkin bread and get a beer, and then pulled the chair close to the tv for the final 3 hours. And then I went online, and posted to my blog: "Holy Fucking Shit." Or WTTE.

*g*

I still have issues with the way John waltzed onto that command carrier without even a hint of a plan, and that the rest of them went along with it. There wasn't any reason for Chiana or Jool to go to the command carrier, they had nothing to gain and everything to risk, and John or Aeryn should have recognized that. Chiana might have insisted, but I don't believe Jool would have ( ... )

I do and I don't. I mean, from a common-sense standpoint, absolutely. On the other hand, it's just one more manifestation of the wing-and-a-prayer deal-with-details-later approach to problem-solving that has characterized John ever since we've known him, and which the writers have thankfully managed to thematize as both a character flaw trait and a source of considerable anxiety to the rest of the gang. So I'm more exasperated than incensed: John, you moron, not *again ( ... )

You and... well, many other people. I'm interested in hearing your comments on Season 4.

I didn't get the Blakes 7 joke, either, as I'd never seen it. But I've seen pictures of Servalan, and the resemblance is obvious. I should ask whose idea it was...

I'm really excited about getting all caught up and discussing the miniseries in realtime with fellow fen! I'm assuming your LJ will be a handy place to get hooked in to all the best conversations?

Yes! Unless I hate it. *g*

thassalia and rubberneck would also be good places for that, indeed, probably more so even than I am, since my flist has evolved a bit in recent months with the whole Stargate thing. *g*

The quick preview of my S4 reactions thus far is that I've changed my mind about it half a dozen times at least. Of course, I still have almost half the season to go, so we'll see where I end up.

And thanks for the links to relevant LJs; I've been resisting adding any Farscape folks to the reading list because of inadvertent spoilers -- I can't expect people not to talk about the show just because I haven't seen it! -- and am looking forward to finally finishing up so I can change that a bit; although I suppose at this point a lot of the conversation would have to do with fic, which isn't my cup of tea. So we'll see.
