farmers' market: summer's here

Sugar snap peas and fresh garlic mean summer - and also mean that green beans and raspberries are just around the corner. It amazes me that even with all that's at the market now there's still so much to look forward to.

I was running late this morning (after staying up late last night working on a housewarming mix for sisabet), but stopped in at the ( Read more... )

I just wanted to say that I love your market jaunt reports. I come from a single-parent, fast-food-and-Hamburger-Helper household. Salad was something you had at restaurants. Ever since I moved away from there I've been slowly re-arranging my life away from that and towards, well... I don't know where I'm going quite yet, but the food there is a lot better. You make the farmer's market and the realm of 'real food' seem comforting and approachable, where it used to be intimidating and highbrow, and kind of confusing.

Also, you make everything sound delicious. :)

And things that are in season at the same time are almost always delicious together.

There's a cookbook by Deborah Madison called Vegetarian Cooking For Everyone that I highly recommend; it's well-indexed, extremely practical, full of excellent recipes that range from the very simple and everyday to only-for-company elaborate. And it's ( ... )

Heh. I'm afraid I've made her sound worse than she is; she's a wonderful person, actually, and I care about her very much. She's just... deeply confused and terminally insecure, and those are issues she needs to work out with a therapist and probably a pharmacist instead of through flirting with me.

But yes, I am very grateful that most of you are not her. *g*
