I've been thinking about the Slayage con that sisabet and sockkpuppett and tzikeh were at this past weekend, and thinking about the intersection of fandom and academia.

I was thinking about that, too. Not so much re anything that *I* would publish because I won't, but that a good vid is as engaging to Buffy academics as a paper, and maybe even more so. And it's easy to just watch them. :)

Yes. Some of the vids I've seen - including, not surprisingly, some of yours and sisabet's - have a lot more interesting things to say about the show than many of the academic papers I've seen on BtVS.

You know, I'm dying to see what the academics who watched the vid show thought about it. I gather the reception was very positive, but I kind of want to read smart people wax rhapsodic about their first exposure to vids at length--you know what I mean?

I know *exactly* what you mean. I first encountered vids in a very fannish context, and because they were fairly mediocre vids they didn't inspire me to much thought at first. Whereas encountering excellent vids when already steeped in analytic processes... Yeah, I'd love to see what some of those folks have to say about their intro to the world of vids.
