Two days of work this week. Can I make it?

The office is very quiet this morning. It's astounding the number of people that are coming in late so that they can watch the inauguration. And heart warming (I mistyped that as hearth warming, which I suppose it could be. But probably with less flames ( Read more... )

I love Latter Days. It's so sappy, and yet, I can watch it over and over again.

And yay for spinning! Will there be pictures?

Yeah, I love it too...and it helps that the soundtrack is pretty nifty (though I get all sniffly during "Tuesday 3 AM" every time I hear it.) But it's a sweet movie.

There may be pictures later. It's about half of one of the fibers I got from you at the moment. I'm debating whether I can fit the other half on the spindle because I'd rather have either one huge skein or two medium skeins than one large and one tiny.

There are some tricks (if you have a plying spindle) for getting one freaking huge skein out of smaller batches of singles. I have been using my CD spindle for plying since it can take a truly monstrous quantity of yarn.

Then as I finish a batch of singles, I wind it off onto a TP roll. Stick it back in the stash, start a second batch. Once I have my singles spun, I wind 'em off into a firm outer feed ball with as many singles as I want plies. (so far, I've only done 2 ply this way but 3 or 4 are very possible) When I get to the end of one TP roll, I can splice in the next one. No extra twist needed if you have fluffy ends... they'll spin themselves together even if the singles are pretty old. It pays to be fussy and careful with the ball winding.

Then I ply. And ply. And ply...

There are lots of other ways to do it, but that's mine.

Wait, was Straight Jacket the Rock Hudson-esque one? I had that from Netflix and couldn't get through it. It was just too cringe-inducing. In fact, I dropped it in the mail this morning...

The one with the gay actor and the screen writer. And the very scary woman he marries to pretend he's straight?

It's...bad. But I find it bad in a way that makes me snicker rather than cringe.

I'm looking forward to FC and will be staying afterwards... I hope we can get together and hang out at con and such... maybe you'd be interested in trying to go to SF and see Wicked since it's back in your area and I've been wating to see that for a long time.

I'm sure I'll see you at con! Maybe more this year even, since you won't be getting dragged off by tigers and wuffs ;-)

I have to work next week and I have Harlequeen and Felder staying with me the following weekend so I'll only have week evenings free but we can definitely try to arrange something. Wicked is probably a non-starter though since I fully expect to be broke after the con :-)

Heh well usually saw a fair bit of you but wasn't always drug off by tigers and wuffs... :P But will miss them at the con though since they're not making :( But would definitely like to get a chance to hang with you outside of things if possible. :) Still the thought of Wicked was a just a thought given I have been wanting to see it a while and haven't had the chance to.
