I had "the talk" with my eldest girl a couple nights ago. You might ask why would I do that? Shouldn't she learn about sex the way we did, from misinformed friends, "playing doctor" with the neighbor boy, and reading frayed copies of Fanny Hill. It was good enough for us, etc... This is probably going to come up occasionally. I'd start buying appropriate books and leaving them lying around the house. XXXenophile comes to mind.

Hehe, I have left those around ACCIDENTALLY. Luckily neither kid found them before me. Now they are permanently put away in the comic book pile.

Actually I am anal enough, to have already bought a book called Deal with it! by the gurl.com people, ultra modern, very informative etc. it's for tween to teen level sex-ed and covers all the gritty details, including the bad parts of sex.

Nora and I have been having parts of the talk for a few years now. Of course, we mostly use slightly stupid euphemisms ("girl parts", "boy parts"), not to keep her ignorant - she knows the right words - but to reinforce what type of language is OK to use around "not us".

I just feel like she's less likely to get sent to the principal's office if she shouts out "Jason just got kicked in the boy parts!", rather than, well, just about any other way she would put it. ;)

I can see her doing that. The book doesn't cover testicles at all, bsides drawing them in under the penis (it's only short coming), it really focuses on sex, ie the man puts his x in a ladies y, and apparently both parties are suppose to enjoy it, who knew ;). And then goes into a lot of detail about fetal development and birth. I liked even though it was pretty 70's.
