Now, why couldn't they do that the first time around

I finished watching Serenity the movie last night and I was quite impressed. It was very, very well put together. I had been worried about craploads of boring exposition and recap, but they managed to work it in without disrupting the flow. It was sort of funny to see everyone calling each other by the job title and reinforcing their various roles ( Read more... )

Ya, but I'm not sure why the rest of the fleet listened to him. Sure, he had command authority, but giving an order like that? Hell, _someone_ would have called back to HQ to tell them what was up. That's a clear path to promotion after all. Then HQ would have thrown a shit fit and told the alliance forces to no longer listen to the guy.

I liked the whole Reaver scene too, but the problem I had with it is that it dosen't make much sense. It's not like the Reaver planet was a military base or something. There's no way they should have heavy ship weapons. They should get their ass kicked, even if they outnumbered the other forces. It's like suggesting that if we went apeshit and used our cars to attack the US military that we could take out tanks and crap. They're great for latching on and swarming smaller ships once they're able to come aboard, but I just don't see them winning anything close to a shooting war. They should have been wiped out within minutes.

They ran because they knew that the Reavers are CRAZY and suicidal. They don't care how many die, they just keep comming. Plus, remember that in the episodes what's her face (second in command) said that if they were LUCKY they would rape, kill and skin them in that order. The prospect of being skinned alive and KNOWING that at least some of them would have that happen to them would be enough to send most people running.
