Oh, how very creative! I haven't seen anyone writing the monkey on the Pearl before the mutiny. And it adds another layer to Barbossa's resentment of his captain.
succeeded only in capturing bits of the surrounding jungle or each other This one line brings up the most hilarious bit of action in my mind. LOL.
He thinks Hector's 'is mum! Barbossa being all maternal is a mental image that is going to make my brain smoke. But there is that sense of connection between him and the monkey in the movie. And one could argue from Jack's treatment of the donkey that he would be the more callous one when it comes to animals.
And you give Jack and mini-Jack a "Past". Very well done. I enjoyed this immensely. Yay, for bloated drabbles!
*lugs in bucket of water* Did not mean to cause brain overload! Barbossa does seem to care for the monkey, though since he never makes eye-contact with the creature it's as if he won't admit to being affectionate. So glad you liked it!
Creative indeed! Never thought about Jack having known the monkey from before the mutiny, but why not? And even mutinous, cold-hearted first mates can have a chink in their armor. Barbossa and the monkey obviously have a close and happy relationship. Well done!
Monkey!icon!!! (did you just make that for this week's theme?)
Never thought about Jack having known the monkey from before the mutiny, but why not? Have no idea how long these little guys live, but since the monkey's cursed too, normal lifespan wouldn't matter. And Jack seems to dislike Jack-the-Monkey so much (the scene in the great cabin where he's munching on one of Barbossa's apples really shows his distaste for the creature, so I couldn't resist the vermin association) that their having known each other before made sense to me. I'm so happy you liked it.
"He thinks Hector's 'is mum!" LOL! Despite Barbossa shooting his mum, it *is* cute - and the little creature does seem devoted to him, so he can't have been that bad to it.
Nice to see Jack in the role of villain for a change! I do like the shiny-mouthed man! :)
Barbossa and the monkey do seem to really like each other, yet there are times the monkey seems to be the smartest member of the crew so I'm sure they both benefit. I'm glad you enjoyed this - thanks so much for taking the time to comment!
BTW, your icon has filled me with curiosity - who is Gillette trying to clobber with the chamberpot?

Jack Sparrow, naturally :) It comes from a very funny fic which purports to be a letter sent by Admiral George Brydges Rodney to the Admiralty, reporting on the state of Port Royal. The trouble is that this is a Port Royal in which all the slash-writing cliches are true. Rodney reports back in glorious 18th Century language on the scenes of depravity, and it's a magnificent romp through some of the more silly areas of fandom. I liked it so much that I had to make matching icons :)
Interesting take on the theme, I really like this, and the last line is just great :-) As the other have said, it doesn't seem like Barbossa mistreated the little creature, rather like there's a bond between them, and you've described the possible beginnings of it very well here.

And interesting to get some backstory to how the monkey became part of the crew after the mutiny.
