Can't even check my email at lunchtime because of all the training classes they're sending me to - will I ever get caught up reading all the lovely pirate!fic you all are writing
( Read more... )
It was a perfect complement to clear blue sky, rich blue water, golden Caribbean sunlight.
It's like a travel poster! And I really love that you didn't name the boy, so he could be one of several characters. Excellent!
And the icon! That looks great! Such a pretty little picture on that rug. I still need to fix the dove one for you. Just realized I never did that.
And you just whipped this drabble out on the spur of the moment! I guess I'd better see if I can do that too. I fell behind on drabbles, too, the last couple of weeks.
It sounds like you are incredibly busy these days. I know from experience how difficult it is to find any extra time for oneself, taking care of home and family, working full time, and then having obligations on weekends, too. The pirate!fic will still be there, when you have a little more time -- or if you need to take a short breather.
It's like a travel poster! Whee! I was consciously focusing on showing instead of telling when I edited that part and it seems to have worked (yea!). Guess you could call it spur of the moment - about 10 minutes to get what I saw onto paperscreen and 10 more in the morning to clean it up and whittle it down to 100 words. Am still finding the writing process odd in some ways; had a great thought for "movement" a couple weeks ago - worked on it all week and was never happy with the result (which keep feeling tedious) so it still sits in my drafts folder.
I just couldn't wait any longer to use my rug icon! Still haven't paid for full membership (or whatever they call it), so had to swap one out, but I just love being able to use it - thank you again!! And you used your ship icon (whee! ships sailing!) which always makes me think of sitting in the breezy shade on the edge of a tropical beach. Can't remember - did you tell me where that picture came from?
Am sure things will settle down at work, but right now the learning curve is
( ... )
So glad you liked it! And yes, it certainly was young!Jack I was seeing, but his name got tossed when paring it down to 100 words, and all that remained was the grin, so I'm happy you could see him too. :)
I do enjoy your writing. *blushes* What a huge compliment - you see, I always love reading what you've written!
Beautiful image! I love the observations on the light. The properties of light in different places is fascinating. You really capture the feeling of coming upon a wonderful new place as well. Good work!
The properties of light in different places is fascinating. Amazing, isn't it? That's what the Impressionist artists understood so well and tried to show us. tessabeth does the most incredible things with light when she writes - I always get the most glorious, gorgeously lit pictures when reading her fic.
What a lovely way to send us a "hello"! Great contrast between the muted and depressed hues of London and the bright colors of the Caribbean, full of life and promise for a young lad.
I've missed your voice in the fandom and have thought of you in your first weeks at the new job. Exciting and exhausting both, I am sure. Anyway, great drabble - send more as you can! Cheers - Jen

"Exciting and exhausting" is exactly right. Am sure things will settle down, and then it'll be easier to find time for reading and writing pirate!fic (which I'm missing terribly).

Maybe you'd like a beta reader for it? You could send it along, if you want -- an extra pair of eyes really helps, as I know from experience.
My ship icon is a stained glass picture of the H.M.S. Bounty -- I found it when I was googling "stained glass", I believe.
Again, good luck with the job, and with juggling all your other responsibilities.
