The only factoid I find suspicious is the third one, where the attorney denies that there is a connection between the noose and the attacks. I'm not sure how he knows that. In my experience, there's a lot that happens beyond the view of adults in high school. They might be related and not appear to be to the adults examining the case.
I do think it's sort of sick to throw a murder charge at these kids. I truly don't think that would have happened if the assaults had occurred the other way around (the white kids attacking the black ones). The decision in how to charge is one of those insidious ways racism is still alive and well in this country.
That's a fair point and I felt a little weird about that item too. It's one thing to say that two things *are* connected and have concrete evidence to back it up. But to say that two things *aren't* connected is almost impossible because no one can truly know what's in the hearts of others

I didn't change my vote after reading the real facts. I believe they should be punished for their crimes, but that the charges should be reduced to something more appropriate, like a simple assault charge. If six kids teamed up on this one kid with the intent to murder him, he'd most assuredly be dead. The intent was assault, just to teach him a lesson and give everyone else a warning.
That is so spot on. And that's why I included the picture of the victim -- he definitely was assault and someone needs to answer for that, but it's not attempted murder b/c he's not in a coma, wrapped up in heavy bandages and with tubes up his nose. I mean, the picture was taken 60 to 90 minutes after the actual assault. Minutes. Jeez, these prosecutors need to get a grip.
additionally, no information on the DA's threats prior to trial? or the protest that occurred under the tree after the nooses were dismissed as a prank? i think the documentary that is starting to circulate has much more relevant information than the AP might. race or no race, twenty two years for a pummelling is excessive, especially since that sentence was handed down when bell was sixteen years old. i guess i keep getting stuck on "two nooses, not three..." like the number matters? i understand there will always be misinformation what different media forms convey but it seems too easy to lose the real point of what is going on. :\
I think the three nooses is a dead-on KKK thing, and two is not. But, yeah, I can see where 2 vs. 3 doesn't really seem that significant. Nooses are inappropriate whether you adhere to KKK symbolism or not.
The two nooses versus three may seem like an insignificant item, perhaps even a red herring of sorts. But only insignificant in terms of the injustice the Jena Six are facing. Because all the racist stuff that was going on at Jena High School really doesn't have a bearing on the fact that these guys are being charged with attempted murder for an assault

Whoops. I didn't mean to phrase that like that. I meant to say that he'd most likely be dead, or at least in far worse condition than he was.
