Thinking

It was weird. As much as he wanted to believe that the Sam telling him he wasn’t a good brother wasn’t Sam, he had his doubts. Especially when he’d been called Thumper. Not that he’d let that doubt show. But then he’d talked to Sam again and…it was like that conversation had never happened. He had two options: believe that what he was talking to ( Read more... )

Serena had been on the road with Dean, thanks to his mistake that led to the police oh his tail. But she had been missing Dino, so she found a way to come back home briefly. She saw him pacing and walked up behind him to take his hand in hers. That was enough to tell Dean that she was there for him, so she didn't say anything. Just waited to see if he would want to talk to her or not.

Dean sensed her before he saw her, but her hand connecting with his made him stop and turn to gaze at her. It takes him a moment, but he utters her name softly and pulls her into a tight hug. He's missed her more than he can voice. It wasn't just her leaving with her Dean, but they'd barely spoken in weeks. "I'm glad you're okay," he whispers.

Serena made a little surprised sound at suddenly being pulled into a tight hug. But she instinctively hugs him back just as tightly. "I'm fine. Are you okay?"

He licked his lips, nodding and pulling back. "Yeah. Just...happy to see you. D'you know when you'll...be back permanently?"

Rounding the corner, Dean caught himself before he walked right into a double of himself. He was about to go around when he realized that he knew this one and man, he wasn't happy with him at all. The guy was a cheater, a big one, who couldn't even learn to walk again despite the severed spine. Dean frowned at him, not budging from where he stood.

"I didn't know you lived here," he said stiffly.

Dean stopped abruptly at the voice. He should have left after he talked to Sam. Cursing inwardly, he worked his jaw before speaking, trying to keep his tone civil, but failing miserably. He couldn't believe the guy was still in the house.

"I don't," he said shortly. "I came to see my brother."

"About what?" Dean kept himself squarely planted in the way, looking casual and just interested despite being face to face with the guy who couldn't even stab anyone properly. There was a stupid thought in the back of his head that if he got too close, the other demon's incompetence would start rubbing off on him or he'd start picking up the same bad habits. The last thing he wanted to do was forget everything White-Eyes drilled into him. "Pretty sad you had to cheat, by the way," he said, almost off-hand.

"It's none of your business why I came to see him," Dean sneered at him. Truth be told, he thought the guy before him needed to learn to keep his nose out of other people's business. His fist curled tightly at the casual remark. He was starting to get tired of this never-ending word joust they seemed to get into. "I wouldn't call it cheating. I'd call it finding another way to beat the system. It really pays having friends in high places. Not that I can say much for you. And you know, I really, honest to God, don't know what Sam sees in you. You're so far beyond redemption, I'm surprised one of the Archangels hasn't put you down out of pity."
