Oh, that was brilliant! I read it on the train this morning and had to make a concerted effort not to cry in front of strangers.

Damn straight he would! It was one of my complaints about one of the episodes where Dean sat outside the motel in the Impala, but Sam wasn't supposed to know he was out there. Hello, he would know just from the sound!

as if Dean had driven out to find him with it clenched in his fist.

What a poignant image, and I love that you were able to work it in even though it's from Sam's POV.

"Promise me you'll look after yourself, Sammy."Oh, of course he would say this! It's one thing that is definitely missing from a lot of people's versions of Sam going to Stanford. In many of them, Dean's just gutted by the thought of losing Sam. Which is of course true. But typical Dean would be more worried about Sam's safety out there

I really liked this a lot. Very interesting idea about where and how the bracelets came from and what they mean. I think the way you set up the Winchester family really works here. I thought Season 1 Dean was a little helpless in the face of his family--he got more strength to speak up as the show went on, but I could see him acting this way about the big college fight.
