Today I met Sam Winchester's Hands

Feb 13, 2012 23:17

I had my second day on Falling Skies today. And it was a fine example of how boring being an extra is.

My call-up time was 9:30. I was actually called to set at 5:30pm for about 15 minutes...and then again for an hour at 8pm. I was there for twelve hours.

So, basically, I was paid to crochet a scarf and think about all the stuff that I was going to ( Read more... )

i'm in the movies

I find this fascinating!

B-b-b-ut, you mean that the hands people drool over in the handporn pix aren't necessarily Jared's?!?!? Way to ruin our dreams!!! :)

Haha, it means that handporn pix aren't necessarily Jensen either! I'm really ruining EVERYONE'S dreams.

Basically, if the camera pans and you see the actor attached to the hands, then it's obviously his hands. If the shot is cut before we see anything more than than the hands and what they are touching, then it's probably not the actor's hands.

Now I kind of want to study the difference between Jared's hands and Greg's hands and see if I can spot whose is whose as I watch :P

I've always found the idea of hand double's hilarious. Like, body doubles I get - constantly throwing youself off stuff isn't a good when you're carrying a whole show; maybe you're not comfortable stripping off, whatever. But hands? I just think thats hilarious. What could you possibly doing that would require them?

Of course, logically, I get it. You find you need a shot and the actor's not there anymore. It's one shot and it's the actors day off. The actor has a more important scene to do somewhere else. But, not-logically... really? Really?. Haha.

Yeah, it's is hilariously to think about. They do it SOLELY to save money. Why pay expensive actors to be on set if you aren't going to see their face? (though, less cynically, I'm sure it also helps save them time too, since they can be filming the same "character" with two different camera crews in two different locations.)

But yeah...when I signed up to be an extra, they took pictures of my hands in case they needed to use me as a hand-double. They never have yet, but I've know at least one other person who has been used as a hand-double. I'm hoping they never call me to do that, because they'd probably want to do my nails (which I hate) and also, I have this really wonky finger, and I'm afraid they'd realize it and get mad at me or something... :P

Oh yeah. There's the saving money thing too. Still... Haha.

Oh I do my nails every once in a while purely to see how long it takes for the colour to completely chip off by itself.

Hey, do you think you might get asked to do extra work on Supernatural? I figure if you have to stop now it makes no difference but it would be pretty cool.

It'd be cool is I WAS asked to do extra work on Supernatural...the possibility is always there, but I don't know what my chances are. I've been told that Supernatural rarely uses extras.

I'm still technically available, so if they ever do want me, my agency will call to tell me so...and I would never turn down THAT job. ;)

Hahaha I love your breakdown of the extra'ing you've done. I'm going to watch Falling Skies just to watch you panic run in a pink sweater.

LOL Do you have any backstory about about being the girl in a pink-striped sweater then? An aspiring fashion designer whose debut show was derailed because of the apocalypse(?) :p

And on the hands' double, it's quite funny. I can't spot the difference between hands' double and the original actor's hands, I might have to take a closer look at them! On another shallow note, I love Benedict Cumberbatch's hands. Or fingers, rather. They look..............*dreams of his hands playing with the strings of the violin*

Remind us when the episode is airing, and I'll try my best to catch it! :)

I tried to look at his hands, but he was working a different job that day, so his hands looked like a construction workers. I'm sure when he's playing Sam's hands, his hands are all nice and clean and probably have make-up on them or something. :P

Who knows if those are Benedict Cumberbatch's fingers!! Well, at least on the close up shot of the violin strings...again, the only time you can be sure it's the actors' hands is if you can see the actor attached to them.

Hopefully I'll remember to check back occasionally to check if the episode has aired. :P I don't watch the show.
