I had a rental while my car was being repaired. I'm slightly miffed that I didn't notice the USB port hidden inside the console that let me plug in a flash drive full of MP3s until the day before I had to take it back. Such a simple, yet brilliant, idea.

VW puts those on stuff they sell in the US because they want to sell to younger people. US car companies make you pay through the nose for an options package that includes similar stuff. I'm not quite sure how they think that's going to work for them, but apparently they do think that.
I may be wrong but I believe several Hondas have had USB and aux sound inputs in glove compartments for a while, because, again, Japanese understand what American youth want as a standard part of a car, while domestic makes think they can sell people both a car and an extra options package.

The 2010 Jetta we had in SF had only one 12v socket that I found, below the dashboard, and an aux audio port hidden inside the center console. Seemed kinda silly for them to be separated like that. Sadly, I did not bring an appropriate cable, and it didn't provide one.
