Busy days :)

The weekend was crammed full of things, so I didn't get around to reading or posting much - and the week is also looking pretty full-on - but yes! there's still time for self-indulgence and various cultural excitements.  Not the terrific free lecture with excerpts and explanations of the puppetry of Bao Ha village, though - it was crammed full by ( Read more... )

Cheers for chickpeas! I made mine by the soaking-and-boiling method, and of course (since I began with the whole packet) have ended up with quite a supply of chickpeas set to go - so further spicy snacks are envisaged in the near future - and hummous, too, I expect. (and some sort of curry, almost certainly. :) )

That Shakespeare exchange looks really interesting but I don't think my knowledge of those plays would be good enough to write for. Choosing four from that list is hard too -- excluding the history plays, the only ones I'm have some familiarity with are Macbeth, Much Ado, Midsummer's Night Dream, The Tempest and Merchant of Venice.

I do like the idea of having the name, living arrangements, etc on the census mainly because it'd be useful for things like genealogy. It's been a while since I last filled out a census but I'm pretty sure they do ask for all those items on the US version.

Oh nice, that you're thinking about the Shakespeare exchange! :)
I'm the same about doubting my knowledge of the plays - and even more my knowledge of what interpretations might seem new and exciting to me, but might seem very familiar to veteran theatre-goers. But...I don't know... I think that the crowd might be very forgiving precisely because Shakespeare is so endlessly interpreted and rethought and turned inside-out. Maybe we could both go in it, and hold each other's hands?

(The only thing that's new on the census is attaching the names - the living arrangements, religion etc are all standard questions. The latest news is that the internet form-filling got into a real muddle - from a DDoS hack, apparently. Hopeless!)
