I've been trying to skim the 3SF but I've been really really busy lately and also agree that many of the fandoms appearing I don't know very well.

You're probably right about Moffat's motives, but to me that feels like he's selling out the present story for future commercial potential. :(
I thought I had a reasonable handle on classical mythology, but was stumped by the prompt about Andromache being (?) "a barren queen". There must be more to her story than I knew.

Many people don't like Moffat's years as showrunner and have been unhappy with the plot and character development. I think it'd be a nice change to have someone new come on board too; the last few series have been less exciting for me it seems.
Perhaps "barren" refers to all her losses, not necessarily that she was barren.

Yes, "barren" doesn't have to be literal - and it could have been referring to some other "barren queen" in her life,or Hector's. I'm adding classical mythology to the burgeoning list of things I'd like to get to grips with - one of these days.
