Good news today :) I got a job offer, it's in Cambridge which isn't my first choice, but the opportunity is to good to turn down. It pays much better than where I am, it promises decent career progression, and it is with a young dynamic tech company that looks to be really going places. I just hope I can keep up

Congratulations on the job :)

I lived in Cambridge for a few years and really liked it, once I'd settled in. Haven't been back for a while (due to avoidance of a psycho ex) but from what I've heard their munch is pretty active and friendly. Good luck with it all.

Thanks :) I can understand the whole ex-avoidance. The munch looks interesting, and the job is in the science park, so nice and handy. Other than that I know nothing about Cambridge!

I lived on the Mill Road side, which is the opposite end to the Science Park and a tad more "alternative" than most of Cambridge. Top recommendations if you're over that way are CB1 , an internet cafe / second hand bookshop that's good for general friendliness + board games and The Live and Let Live pub.

Also based on Mill Road fwiw is Arco Iris a fantastically warm, chaotic and loud community samba band that I was part of for a couple of years. No idea if that sort of thing is anywhere near your cup of tea but if you're living in Cambridge you're bound to encounter them sooner or later.
