Hercules: 2014

The official trailer for 2014's Hercules: The Legend Begins is a visual delight. Shades of Immortals, 300, and Gladiator, with reconstructions of Bronze Age Mycenaean architecture thrown in. The Lion Gate of Mycenae, the court of Knossos(?), and the citadel of Tiryns (Herakles's birthplace). The story isn't hewing that closely to the myth, and I ( Read more... )

Thanks for heads up about the movie. But what it is with modern producers, why they can't bring themselves up to follow any mythological story close to its source?

Because the Herakles of myth was rather a jerk. And then there's that whole going mad/killing one's wife and kids thing.

You know that there is a second Herakles film coming out next year, too, right? It has "The Rock" as Herakles and Rufus Sewell as his sidekick.

hahah! Nice. Well played...

No, he's not, but...in this case he's ...Iolaus (?). I'm not into my Herakles mode this evening, because I'm trying to do my lecture for Ephesos. (Artemis, baby, Artemis) and I'm not even supposed to be anywhere near LJ, let alone talking Agamemnon/Herakles. lol.

I was referring to Rufus Sewell playing Agamemnon in that 2003 made for TV miniseries Helen of Troy.

While watching this trailer I was wondering, why is Herakles facing off against his brother Iphikles? Where's Eurystheus? Where are the cameos by Atreus and Thyestes, who were at the court of Mycenae after their father Pelops banished them?

It's pretty, but I have a feeling the acting will be terrible. Rather like Immortals - looked great, but a terrible movie.
