I accidentally spent the morning in bed again - I really really can't do that tomorrow!

We had pasta for lunch, and I must have cooked it slightly differently from usual, because Two declared it inedible (he will eat anything normally...) and insisted on going to check the packet to see if the pasta was past its sell by date! He won't starve ( Read more... )

Have you discovered the many and varied things you can get as podcasts? I download lots of Radio 4 stuff to listen to when I can't sleep. But there are plenty of cooler things to listen to as well.

Yes, I've loved podcasts for ages, but having the ipod will make it so much easier to get at them and listen to them. :-)

In the long-ago days. O little brother - er - sister - my companion got a nasty shock when he discovered that connecting a music centre/radio to the TV aerial was licensable, although there wasn't a TV set in the hous. Luckily, the inspector believed him and let him off with a severe warning -

Crumbs - I didn't even know it was possible to connect a radio to the TV aerial! Not that I intend to start now, we don't even have a TV aerial connection coming into the house any more!

I'm not even sure how they did it - presumably by attaching a television connector to the radio/music centre's flexible aerial - but it was the supplier's last ditch attempt after he'd threatened to return the thing.
He hated it anyway - but was forced into it when the insurance on the radiogram (broken during a move) didn't cover a like-for-like replacement - and came to be quite impressed by the recording facilities.

I am envious. In this country, if a television set can, potentially, acquire a television signal (even if it needs repairing first!), it must be licensed.

Which means that if I want to use my Wii Fit, I need to buy a television licence. What nonsense!

That's not fair! Here, you only need a TV licence if you are watching TV at the time it is broadcast, and certainly the licensing man seemed happy enough yesterday evening.

So, if I only used my recordable hard drive to watch tv I'd recorded, I wouldn't need a license?! I can't actually recall the last time I personally watched tv live, I record my fave few programmes & watch them as & when. Andy & the children watch tv properly though, CBBC is on now as I type :p

I didn't even actually have a tv when I left my first husband, as he kept ours & I never got around to buying one when I lived on my own, as worked out that I only watched it with my ex husband & wasn't that bothered.

No I'm afraid I think that would count as recording live TV which also isn't allowed without a licence. I'd forgotten about the recording part of it but I think the wording is in there somewhere.

In my first year of uni I got a law student I knew to write a letter on my behalf informing the TV licensing people that consistent threats to come to my flat was harassment, and if they chose to continue I would take the matter further, but I was getting 2 or 3 letters a week informing me that I had a TV (which I didn't). They stopped after that.
I went over to the ipod dark side last Autumn, I love it!

We had someone round a couple of years ago to check, and after that all the letters stopped - until I decided to go and buy a second hand TV from a charity shop to attach a Wii to - at which point the charity shop were obliged to inform TV Licensing, even though I told them it wasn't for watching TV on, and the whole cycle of letters started again!
I'm very pleased they've finally been round to check again; hopefully that will be it.
