We used to like "I'm thinking of a character" My dad had us going from Carlisle to Edinburgh with "the magic carpet"

2 more games for you:
Invisible hide and seek
1 person decides where they are hiding and the others have to guess with questions that can be answered "yes" or "no"

It's worth setting boundaries eg it has to be a place which is feasible (eg under your bed or in the bath at grannys) and everyone knows - Matty always used to try for "on a spaceship on the way to the moon"!

Fortunately/Unfortunately
Everyone takes it in turns to give the next sentance to a story using fortunately/unfortunately alternatively eg

Fortunately it was a lovely sunny day
Unfortunately that was in Australia and Helen was in Crewe where it was raining
Fortunately she had an umbrella with her
Unfortunately it had a big hole in it

and so on.... - usually ends up being hilariously silly

Both these have kept us going through many car journeys and waiting times AND can be played in the dark!

I detest I Spy. I was happily reading my book on the train yesterday, but Kate wanted to play I Spy out of the window, boring :(

How on earth do you only spend £15 a week for 4 people on food? I spend about £70 on my weekly shop, though this does include pet food & cleaning stuff & I cook from scratch, so it's all ingredients & packed lunch stuff.

Well the last two weeks I have been using up stuff so that's why it's come to so little. Started again more or less from scratch today and it came to just under £27.

Free school meals make all the difference - I only feed the kids a hot meal at weekends, so in the week I'm only buying main meal stuff for one person.

Also it doesn't include bread as I buy that at Asda - the rolls I get there are cheaper and the kids like them better than the Tesco ones!

I pay £7.50 a week for Holly's school dinner & Kate takes a packed lunch. I cook in the evening for all of us, what do yours eat in the evenings then? Mine complain later on that they're hungry if I give them big french bread sandwiches or similar in the evenings if we're busy with activities.

In the evenings we have sandwiches and raw veg - chopped up pepper, carrots, cherry tomatoes etc., and often chopped up cheese as well.

I do sometimes miss eating a proper meal all together during the week, but at the moment our income is such that the hot school meals the kids get are an absolute Godsend in terms of how much money I'm saving on shopping. Before that I would be spending £40-£50 a week.

We used to play "Who am I?" (has to be a person/character everyone at least might have heard of though) or "Animal, vegetable, mineral", which in my family could get quite complicated, e.g. a book would be "Vegetable and mineral with animal connections"! Or there's "I love my love":

I love my love with an A
Because his name is Algernon
And he lives in Aberystwyth
And he is Avaricious.

And so on, through the alphabet. My father once came up with:

I love my love with an I
Because her name is Iona
And she lives on Iona
And Iona.

Messy Church made me think of a Gather..... The Minister's Cat is a little bit more adventurous than I Spy and we also used to play the game involving names/places where the next person had to think of a name/place beginning with the last letter of the previous answer (though Little Three may be a bit young for this - you can keep it in mind for the future though!)
